by NEWTON, Miss. — La-Z-Boy announced Monday that it is finalizing the closure of its upholstery plant here, a move that will take effect Sept. 16.
The plant closure is expected to impact about 180 workers, the company said, adding that the facility accounts for less than 5% of the company’s branded business and total upholstery production.
La-Z-Boy first announced the closure in June 2020 as part of a plan to realign its business, including its manufacturing footprint. However, as demand rose, it reactivated part of the plant that following October.
The company said it also has since added capacity to its manufacturing footprint and rebalanced production across about 5 million square feet over the past two years. This has been part of an effort to better manage its backlog and also leverage efficiencies across its entire operations.
The company said that its Newton-based integrated supply and other functions will remain in operations. These operations employ about 235 people who will continue to work for the company.
