Culp announces executive transition for upholstery fabrics division

Newly named EVP Mary Beth Hunsberger will succeed Boyd Chumbley as president of Culp Upholstery Fabrics later this year

HIGH POINT — Culp Inc. has hired Mary Beth Hunsberger as executive vice president of Culp Upholstery Fabrics, effective Jan. 8.

The company also intends for her to succeed Boyd Chumbley as division president in the third quarter of this calendar year. Chumbley will work with Hunsberger during a period of transition, and he then will continue in an advisory role to support the company as needed.

Hunsberger has more than two decades of expertise in the home furnishings industry. She comes to the company from Dedon Inc, where she was controller and then president of North and South America since 2016. She also was concurrently was the chief operating officer of North and South America for sister outdoor furniture resource Gloster Furniture since 2023.

Earlier in her career, Hunsberger worked for Tempur + Sealy International Inc. as director of sales finance. She also was previously director of finance and senior manager of business analysis at Sealy.

In her new position, she will report to Iv Culp, president and chief executive officer.

Culp said that the company is pleased to welcome Hunsberger to its team.

“Her broad experience and knowledge of the home furnishings industry will help us continue to build upon the strong foundation of success created under Boyd’s leadership,” Culp said. “We believe Mary Beth is a terrific fit for our current and future strategic plans, and we are pleased that she will have an extended time to work with Boyd and learn from his deep knowledge of Culp Upholstery Fabrics.”

Chumbley has worked with Culp since 1984. Over many years, the company said, he has made “extraordinary contributions to the upholstery fabrics division. He has served as a dedicated leader throughout his tenure and plans to transition to a supporting role in the third quarter of this calendar year. In this new role, he will continue adding significant strategic value with his experience and extensive knowledge of the home furnishings industry.”
