Dos Marcos mattress experts launch book to help independent retailers draw traffic and build a following

BENTONVILLE, ARK. —  Bedding industry veterans Mark Kinsley and Mark Quinn will release “Come Back to Bed: Attract More Foot Traffic and Make People Fall in Love with Your Store,” Dec. 8.

Their book aims to be a guide for independent retailers, offering strategies and principles to differentiate their brands, form lasting customer relationships, and drive traffic into their stores.  

In a release announcing the book launch, Kinsley, President and CEO of Top 15 mattress company Englander, and Quinn, co-founder of Spink & Co, Farm-Grown Beds, and vice president of key accounts and marketing for Sherwood Bedding, said they hope the book helps mattress and furniture retailers who are looking for creative ways to boost their businesses

It comes, they note, as the industry continues to experience a massive transition, especially in the midst of the  COVID-19 pandemic.

“During the pandemic shutdowns, we saw what our towns would look like if independent retail disappears,” Kinsley said. “Many businesses shut their doors for good because they couldn’t weather the storm. My hope is that our book  will inspire retailers to go on the offense by offering magical experiences that can’t be found when shopping online.”  

Kinsley and Quinn have collaborated for years as hosts of the Dos Marcos, The Galaxy’s Greatest Mattress Podcast,” and have regularly worked together in other ways, including as presenters during industry buying group conventions, where they often offer up strategies independent retailers can use to stand out from competitors.

“Come Back to Bed” also includes strategies and principles retailers can deploy to build their brands in their markets and connect with customers, and “more than 70 foot traffic-driving ideas that actually work, gathered from real independent retailers,” they note.

“We don’t want businesses to survive, we want them to thrive,” Quinn said. “The problem for independent retailers is that they have to compete with e-commerce and big-box stores. If you are going toe-to-toe against those giant budgets, you have to find a way to be unique and stand out, and that’s what our book will help retailers do.”
