Ashley Furniture announces price decrease on imports

Move aims to reconcile charges dealers have incurred from previous price hikes announced earlier this year

ARCADIA, Wisc. – In a reversal that offers a silver lining to the ongoing saga of price hikes since the start of the year, Ashley Furniture announced Friday it Is rolling back pricing on most of its imported products

You read that right. The full-line furnishings resource said it is lowering pricing on imports including accessories, bedding, outdoor furniture, upholstery and case goods.

“Since Ron Wanek founded Ashley Furniture in 1970, our mission statement has been the same: Improve Quality, Reduce Cost, Do More Business, Make a Profit and Stay in Business,” CEO Todd Wanek wrote. “Inspired by that mission, we are confident that we will find a way to reduce costs and although we have not seen any reductions in our costs yet, we are rolling back your prices now!”

The letter, which the company sent to Home News Now on Friday, follows a previous February correspondence that alerted dealers to a series of price increases that was to take effect on all new orders placed on or after March 13. The increases also were to be effective for all unfulfilled goods ordered or invoiced as of April 10 regardless of the order date.

In the letter issued Friday, Wanek said effective April 1, the company is rolling back prices for new orders, which is part of an effort to “reconcile any charges you have incurred consistent with new pricing beginning April 17.”

Ashley is also reducing an incremental increase for West Coast Customers from $20 to $40 per piece to $20 to $30 maximum per piece depending on the price point.

“We believe that this reduction in pricing will not only give you a great value and ensure your competitiveness in the marketplace, but it also reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction,” Wanek wrote. “We will do this by continuing to drive operational improvements through significant human and financial investments in robotics, automation, and process improvements. We are evaluating our raw materials, suppliers and vendors with the aim of continuing to provide the best values in home furnishings while employing over 30,000 associates worldwide.”

Wanek said that the company also plans to lower pricing on items produced and shipped from its new upholstery production facility in Arizona serving the West Coast. He added that backlog reprices for applicable domestically sourced items will remain scheduled for April 10, 2022 while any repricing for imported products will be effective May 1, 2022.

“We are pleased to pass along this price reduction, but also appreciate the inconvenience that it may cause you,” he said, adding, “These rollbacks are intended to help support you being competitive on customer pricing. We trust that you will reprice your floors as soon as possible.”
