Star Furniture names Richard Jones president

HOUSTON — Richard Jones has been named president of Star Furniture.

Filling a role that has been vacant since the departure of former president Bill Ward in 2018, he comes to the company with an extensive retail background that spans 30 years. He was most recently at The Gap, where he was senior director of operations and before that he was regional director for a total of four years.

For about eight years prior, he was vice president and district manager at Kohl’s and before that was a district team leader at Target for about six years.

Before joining Target, he was a regional sales manager at retailer Ultimate Electronics for 11 years.

In his new position in the furniture industry, Star said he will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the company, including stores, merchandising, marketing, warehouse operations and customer service.

He reports to Jeff Cohen, chief executive officer.

“Richard is a great fit for the Star Furniture team,” Cohen said. “His retail acumen, leadership skills and forward-thinking attitude will accelerate the delivery of our strategic goals.”

Jones said he is pleased at the opportunity to “lead our talented team and to build upon Star Furniture’s 100-plus-year legacy. With Star’s commitment to great product, high-performing teams and a superior customer experience, we will chart a path for continued growth while maintaining our position as a driving force in our industry,” he said.

Jones will accompany the Star merchandising team to the High Point Market next week.
