American Woodcrafters eliminates freight surcharge

HIGH POINT — Case goods resource American Woodcrafters is removing a 16% surcharge on its entire product line which includes youth and master bedroom and dining room furniture. The change takes effect Oct. 17.

The company said it has had a surcharge in place for more than a year to help cover the cost of high ocean freight rates experienced by most industry importers.

“With transportation costs dropping over the last three months, we wanted to move forward on a ‘back-to-normal’ basis, and our entire product line, including new introductions at the October High Point Market, will be surcharge-free out of our warehouse going forward,” said Rusty Morris, vice president of sales and marketing.

“We hope this will give retailers more confidence in what they are purchasing at Market, and ultimately improve their margins and their close rates,” he added.
