Exec succeeds Dave Swers, who is retiring after a 35-year career at Glen Raven

BURLINGTON, N.C.  Performance fabrics resource Glen Raven, Inc. has named Joseph Davis, an executive with more than 30 years of experience in consumer products, sales and supply chain, as the next president of the company’s Material Solutions Group.

Davis, who most recently served as president and general manager of Jacuzzi Luxury Bath, succeeds Dave Swers, who is retiring after a 35-year career at Glen Raven.

Joseph Davis

“Joey’s extensive experience in business strategy, business model design, supply chain and sales leadership will serve him well as the next president of our Material Solutions Group,” said Glen Raven CEO Leib Oehmig. “His career has been defined by creating a customer experience that is second to none, and most recently, Joey oversaw major transformation of a company business model resulting in new growth platforms that continue to deliver significant results.”

“We are eager to add Joey’s perspective, skills and experiences to our collective team at Glen Raven,” Oehmig added.

Prior to joining Glen Raven, Davis led Jacuzzi Luxury Bath, part of the Jacuzzi Group Worldwide, for nearly 11 years. He previously served in sales and supply chain leadership roles at Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., and Price Pfister.

“I am very humbled to join Glen Raven Material Solutions and play a part in elevating some of the most iconic performance fabric brands the world over,” Davis said. “I consider myself a custodian in this role and am honored to serve, help expand our brands and make our customers’ lives better. I can’t wait to see what we do together.”

In his role as president of the largest division in Glen Raven’s portfolio, Davis will oversee go-to-market strategies and manufacturing operations for Glen Raven Material Solutions Group’s Furnishings, Shade & Marine and Protective business units, as well as its European business and Asia operations.

This includes Sunbrella, the flagship brand of Glen Raven; Dickson, a French-based brand acquired by Glen Raven in 1998; GlenGuard, a global leader in high-performance protective fabrics; and Glen Raven Asia, a state-of-the-art manufacturing center established to meet the demands of a global consumer base.

“At Glen Raven, we pride ourselves on supporting our customers, and our ability to serve them and measure and track results is on display every day,” Davis said. “I look forward to helping our team weave tight connections with our customers and stay abreast of market and technology changes that impact their businesses.”

Swers, who joined Glen Raven in 1989, was instrumental in establishing the leadership position of Sunbrella fabrics within the casual furniture industry. Under his leadership, his team elevated Sunbrella from its roots as a sturdy canvas fabric to a fashion-forward global brand that is now known for both fabric performance and market-leading design. He also led Sunbrella into new applications and channels, encouraged Glen Raven to create differentiation in indoor furniture by leveraging the Sunbrella performance story and was pivotal in Glen Raven’s efforts to globalize the Sunbrella brand in the furniture and marine markets.

Swers was named president of Glen Raven Material Solutions Group (formerly Custom Fabrics) in 2013 and was also a driving force and executive sponsor for the creation of the new Glen Raven Consumer Solutions Group, part of the company’s move closer to the consumer.

“Throughout his career, Dave has led with integrity and a vision for the future,” Oehmig said. “I will miss his wise counsel and am grateful that he dedicated more than three decades of his career to Glen Raven. I also appreciate Dave’s willingness to have worked alongside Joey to ensure a seamless transition prior to beginning his much-deserved retirement.”

Bassett, Va. – Bassett has joined forces with the social engagement platform, Promoboxx, to distribute and track branded media content for its Bassett Design Center and Bassett Custom Studio retailers.

“Promoboxx has been a great new partner for Bassett that has truly allowed our dealers to leverage our compelling marketing assets in a very meaningful way,” said Bruce Cohenour, Bassett SVP-Chief Sales Officer.  “The ease and access to Bassett branded content across all major channels of social media through Promoboxx has been a big win for all parties.”

Bassett will load new product content to Promoboxx’s media management portal each week for its participating retailers to distribute to their own social media channels. Retailers can either have the content automatically appear on their social channels on Bassett’s posting schedule or can manage the schedule themselves.

Invitations to join Promoboxx were sent to Bassett’s key retailers and early response has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have opted for the auto-feed option and Bassett already has seen engagement with retailers’ customers.

“Our retail accounts have robust social channels that leverage their local presence,” said Matt Johnson, Bassett VP of Sales. “Often, local retailers don’t have time or staffing to manage their social media channels with the level of attention they demand. Promoboxx’s simplicity makes it effortless to share fresh content with their customers.”

Promoboxx automatically manages the campaigns via the appropriate digital channels and generates detailed campaign performance analytics for both Bassett and their retailers.

“This allows us to refine our social strategy to improve customer engagement with our retail base,” Johnson said.

Based in Boston, Promoboxx was founded in 2010 and its platform is used by other retail sectors including automotive and apparel.

HIGH POINT — A self-contained videotaping booth called “Tell Us Your Story” is debuting at the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame during the April market.

One of three new permanent exhibits and two new traveling exhibits, the new exhibit captures the stories and ideas surrounding the dynamic world of home furnishings, of the industry and consumers.

“Everyone loves a good story,” said Karen McNeill, chief executive officer and chairman of the Hall of Fame board of directors. “As a profession focused on creating beautiful living environments, we want to share the memories and ideas of our guests and what makes this industry so special. Whether the comments are suggestions or stories that are touching, humorous or even quirky, we’re asking visitors to tell us what their furnishings — or the home furnishings industry — means to them. Together, we can preserve the unique spirit of what each of us calls home and the dynamic industry that furnishes it.”

Tell Us Your Story features easy-to-use technology that enables visitors to sit down, answer a few questions and record a memory, idea or inspiration relating to home furnishings and the role furniture and decorative accessories play in their lives. The booth Is self-contained and includes taping and editing capabilities so that visitors can record and review their messages.

Consumers will be asked questions like: What piece of furniture or home accent from your childhood holds the most memories? If you were moving to a desert island, what one home furnishings item would you take? What does your home mean to you? What is your favorite room, and why?

Industry members from all segments and all roles will explore questions like: What is your job and why do you like it? Why would you recommend this job to others? What is your favorite memory from your first home furnishings market? What do you love most about working in the home furnishings industry?

Visitors can explore the recorded memories and insights of other participants on a screen on the front of the booth, enabling stories to be easily shared and enjoyed. To create more awareness of the many rewarding career opportunities available within home furnishings, the Hall of Fame will be able to create a new consumer-oriented website, where industry members will share their views on their jobs and their profession. The site will feature a range of content, including Q&As and other resources designed to help visitors better understand the wide variety of career paths available within the home furnishings industry.

“Our goal with this new consumer site is to attract new talent to our industry,” McNeill said. “Home furnishings aren’t often top-of-mind when it comes to choosing a career since it doesn’t have a high profile like the technology sector and some other professions. But when you look at home furnishings more closely, you see just how rich an opportunity it represents, with an abundance of exciting options across a wide range of disciplines, from tech, manufacturing and logistics to design, sales and marketing.”

There’s a myriad of career paths in the $150 billion world of home furnishings, McNeill added — “and this new website will share that story with a much larger audience.”
