by During the recent High Point Market, whites caught our eye — snowy hues that bring a crisp freshness, chalky hues that evoke handcrafting, milky and creamy hues that soften a space. White accessories and furniture have an affinity for contemporary design but they create brilliant moments within almost every room design.
Let’s look at a few that sparkle and stand out. Some pieces shown here are available in other finishes or fabrics but we like them just the way they are.
The art deco-inspired Julep swivel chair features a rounded back with a tightly upholstered circular seat that skirts the floor. Covered in crisp white fabric and finished with a pair of overstuffed decorative pillows, Julep is part of a new line of upholstery from Detroit-based Regina Andrew Detroit.
Inspired by the finger grooves seen in handmade pottery, the Reiko accent table is created in brush strokes of white gesso over iron. From Dallas-based Arteriors, the drum-shaped side table casts shadows, as light bounces off its textural recesses. It retails for $780.
Playing with rounded and angled lines, the Matteo from Dallas-based American Leather combines classic Italian design with ’70s vibes. It’s available in modular sectional configurations or as a sofa. Shown here in Grappa Cream, it can be covered in a variety of fabrics and leathers. It also comes in a two-tone option with one cover for the body of the frame and another cover for the seat and back cushions. Retail prices for Matteo start at $10,215.
Gemlike asymmetrical opal matte glass shades give the 13-light Tring chandelier a touch of whimsy. It’s part of Hudson Valley Lighting Group’s new line with the New York-based Pembrooke & Ives design firm. Tring is also available as a four-light wall sconce and a flush mount. Choose an aged brass or polish nickel finish on the sleek metal work. The lighting company is based in Wappingers Falls, New York.
This side table, a study in geometry, is part of the Kelly Hoppen CBE collection that Greensboro, North Carolina-based Caracole showcased during the High Point Market. It’s representative of the 23-piece group’s monochromatic palette and laid-back contemporary style.
The traditionally styled three-drawer Haven Bungalow chest from Wilson, North Carolina-based Sarreid Ltd. is made of beechwood and finished in a slightly distressed Bungalow White.
Simple and modern, this Santorini eight-light chandelier has a hand-molded look and a white plaster-like finish. New from Austin, Texas-based Four Hands, it retails for $565.
White looks very different in the Cuit table lamp, also from Four Hands. Inspired by a midcentury modern vase seen at an antiques fair in Austin, the ceramic base and finial have a smooth white porcelain finish. The lamp, which retails for $330, is topped with a squat polyester/linen shade.
The paneled Birdsong utility cabinet offers stylish organization. It’s finished in Milkglass White with a pop of Starlight Blue on the interior back panel. Practical details include a light strip, three stationary shelves, three storage bins and one stationary base shelf. The cabinet is part of High Point-based Universal Furniture’s Newstalgia line.
The Maeve two-door cabinet is finished in a crisp white that acts as a clean foil for silver-pressed vein leaves on the door panels. Its practical touches include touch-latch doors, a removable/adjustable interior shelf and a cut out in the back of the cabinet for cable management. The Maeve is new from Sherrill Occasional, part of the Hickory, North Carolina-based Sherrill Furniture group.
A rounded rock inspired the organic curves of the Piedra cocktail table, part of the Erinn V. x Universal collaboration between interior designer Erinn Valencich and High Point-based Universal Furniture. The table is cast in concrete with a marble finish. A portion of the line debuted in April. Universal showed the full 45-piece collection at the October market.
The wooden Egyptian Bench from Wildwood is shown here in a crisp white but it’s part of a custom paint program the Rocky Mount, North Carolina-based company spotlighted at the recent High Point Market. It can be finished in any Benjamin Moore paint color.
Wildwood’s small iron Sea Breeze chandelier comes in a large version and is also available as sconce. Shown here in white, it can be custom finished in Benjamin Moore paint colors.
