HIGH POINT — Hekman Furniture’s newest collection planned for the fall market cycle features French Heritage design influences updated for today’s consumer.
Made in Indonesia, the 27-piece Chateaux collection offers a mix of bedroom, dining and occasional furniture made with mindi solids and veneers in a natural golden finish that highlights wood grain patterns. The multistep finish also features a charcoal glaze that is further aged with a white powder glaze.
Clean-lined forms are seen in the wood frame of an upholstered panel shelter bed available in king and queen, and on the tops of dining and occasional tables and case pieces. These are contrasted with highly feminine forms including turned and shaped table legs and the fluted and urn-shaped motifs on legs supporting pieces such as an open-shelf, one-drawer bedside table and a clover-top accent table.
Occasional furniture, a top-selling category in the Hekman line, makes up the bulk of the collection with 11 pieces that include a 56-inch-by-32-inch rectangular pedestal cocktail table, a 36-inch round pedestal cocktail, a 26-inch round end table, a 22-inch-by-26-inch oval drawer end table and a 72-inch-by 14-inch-by-32-inch-tall sofa table with drawers, to name several.
There are five dining room pieces, including a 54-inch round dining table with an urn-shaped base, an 82-inch-by-42-inch rectangular leg table that extends to 118 inches with two 18-inch leaves and a flip-top console/dining table that is 72 inches long by 20 inches wide closed and expands to 40 inches wide when open. Two side chairs and an armchair also are available as well as a 68-inch-by-20-inch-wide and 39-inch-tall buffet.
There also are eight pieces in the bedroom category. In addition to the sheltered upholstered bed, key pieces include a single-drawer nightstand, a triple-drawer nightstand, a 56-inch-tall chest, a 68-inch-wide dresser and a 60-inch-by-19-inch-wide and 48-inch-tall mule chest. The collection also includes a 66-inch-by-30-inch-wide writing desk with a trestle base and a 68-inch-long-by-20-inch-wide and 42-inch-tall entertainment console.
The collection also features round hoop pulls and button pulls in aged brass.
It is a stylistic departure from the company’s modern-leaning Organic collection launched in April. A signature element on that collection was the hand-carved drawer fronts made with solid mango that feature a ripplelike appearance mimicking the flow of a brook or stream. It also featured square tube metal frames on select pieces giving it a modern industrial flair.
Chateaux takes a different approach, melding modern and traditional design elements.
“The diversity of pieces and the feminine appeal of this collection should make it a winner this coming October,” the company said of the collection, which is expected to hit retail in April 2024.
At market, it will be on display at the company’s showroom in Space C-754 of the International Home Furnishings Center.
