Samson International recalls 5,400 9-drawer chests due to tip-over hazard

WASHINGTON — Samson International has recalled about 5,400 drawer chests due to a possible tip-over hazard that can result in death or injuries to children.

The recall involves the company’s Universal Broadmoore Cayden gentleman’s nine-drawer chests.

The company said it has received one report of a tip-over involving a 10-year-old child.

The product in question measure about 49 inches tall, 55 inches wide and 18 inches deep. Available in a brown finish, the chest also has a label on the back with the model/item number M71C3180 and the words “Samson International.”

The label also shows the month day and year of manufacture, which occurred between September 2019 and November 2019. The date of manufacture is shown in a MMDDYYYY format.

Made in China by Samson Holding subsidiary Lacquer Craft Mfg. Co. of China. the units were sold at Costco Wholesale Warehouses nationwide and online at www.costco.com from December 2019 through April 2020 for about $700.

They were imported directly by Costco Wholesale Corp. of Issaquah, Washington, and bear the Costco customer item number 1335751.

Consumers have been advised by the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission to immediately stop using the recalled chests if they are not properly anchored to the wall and to place them in an area of the home that children cannot access.

Consumers also have been advised to contact Samson for a full-refund or a free tip-over restraint kit. Samson said it will provide pre-paid shipping labels to allow customers to remove the drawer slides and return them to the company for a full refund.

The company also will provide free in-home installation of the tip-over kit for those consumers who request it. In addition, consumers also can return the chest to Costco for a full refund.
