LEXINGTON, N.C. – Join the annual Giving Tuesday movement on Nov 28th with a generous donation to The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The foundation provides financial support through confidential grants to individuals affiliated with the furnishings and design industries or to their immediate family members. The donations offer relief in areas where insurance does not apply. For example, a grant can be used to meet financial obligations, household needs and transportation to medical appointments. The intent is to enhance the quality of life for those who have breast cancer enabling them to maintain as normal a lifestyle as possible while they are confronting the disease.
The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation was founded in 2000 by the late Suzann Burkhead-Bray and her brother, Scott Burkhead, in honor of their younger sister, Sandra Burkhead Campbell who died from breast cancer. After seeing first-hand how devastating this disease can be, not only for the individual fighting the disease but for the whole family, Bray focused her passion on helping others and the concept for The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation was born.
The organization is seeing a dramatic increase in grant applications from women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, many of whom are young
mothers. To date, the foundation has raised over $1 million and has offered financial assistance to more than 300 individuals throughout North America.
One grant recipient said, “You always think that cancer happens to someone else and not you, but I guess that it was my turn. We thank you so much for the support that you have given us.”
To that another recipient added, “Even with employee provided health insurance there is a huge financial burden that people don’t realize. Your generosity has helped me to lessen that – and for that I cannot thank you enough.”
