ARCADIA, Wis. – Ashley Furniture Industries, LLC (Ashley) and Ashley Charitable Foundation (ACF) have made contributions in support of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics initiatives for the 2023-2024 school year. Annually, the awarded funds provide area students with hands-on robotics and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education. Since 2017, the organizations’ donations toward FIRST initiatives have benefitted over 1,250 students in North Carolina, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

In addition to a monetary donation, Ashley provides ongoing support to the Trempealeau County Robotics (TC Robotics) team who compete head-to-head with robots they have designed, built and programmed throughout the year. TC Robotics is comprised of high school students from Arcadia, Cochrane-Fountain City and Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Wisconsin schools and has been mentored and coached for the past seven years by Ashley employees. The team ended their season as the number one team in Wisconsin and 80th worldwide.

In North Carolina, ACF supported the Queen City Robotics Alliance (QRCA), an organization that provides students with mentorship and programs that focus on skill-based learning and technology. The donated funds will grow the local FIRST Robotics team and give area students an opportunity for competitive learning experiences.

“Education is the catalyst that propels us towards a brighter future. By investing in initiatives like FIRST Robotics and providing hands-on STEM education, we are equipping the next generation with the skills they need to succeed in an ever-evolving workforce,” stated Todd Wanek, president and chief executive officer, Ashley Furniture Industries. “We believe in the power of education to unlock limitless potential, and we are proud to support programs that inspire and empower young minds.”

The mission of FIRST is to provide life-changing robotics programs that give young people the skills, confidence and resilience to build a better world. It prepares young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages 4-18 (PreK-12) that can be facilitated in school or in structured after school programs.

“In today’s rapidly advancing and highly competitive landscape, STEM education is more important than ever. It is the foundation where innovation, growth and success are built,” stated Ron Wanek, founder and chairman, Ashley Furniture Industries. “We recognize the critical role that STEM plays in preparing individuals for the workforce of tomorrow. STEM education initiatives like FIRST Robotics hone the talent and passion of the next generation.”

Ashley is proud to continuously support education efforts and create meaningful educational partnerships that add value to our communities. By providing opportunities to these students, they can be prepared for a future filled with possibility, resilience and a drive to build a better world.

Bassett, Va. – Bassett has joined forces with the social engagement platform, Promoboxx, to distribute and track branded media content for its Bassett Design Center and Bassett Custom Studio retailers.

“Promoboxx has been a great new partner for Bassett that has truly allowed our dealers to leverage our compelling marketing assets in a very meaningful way,” said Bruce Cohenour, Bassett SVP-Chief Sales Officer.  “The ease and access to Bassett branded content across all major channels of social media through Promoboxx has been a big win for all parties.”

Bassett will load new product content to Promoboxx’s media management portal each week for its participating retailers to distribute to their own social media channels. Retailers can either have the content automatically appear on their social channels on Bassett’s posting schedule or can manage the schedule themselves.

Invitations to join Promoboxx were sent to Bassett’s key retailers and early response has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have opted for the auto-feed option and Bassett already has seen engagement with retailers’ customers.

“Our retail accounts have robust social channels that leverage their local presence,” said Matt Johnson, Bassett VP of Sales. “Often, local retailers don’t have time or staffing to manage their social media channels with the level of attention they demand. Promoboxx’s simplicity makes it effortless to share fresh content with their customers.”

Promoboxx automatically manages the campaigns via the appropriate digital channels and generates detailed campaign performance analytics for both Bassett and their retailers.

“This allows us to refine our social strategy to improve customer engagement with our retail base,” Johnson said.

Based in Boston, Promoboxx was founded in 2010 and its platform is used by other retail sectors including automotive and apparel.

At the April High Point Market, Home News Now stopped by the showroom of the upholstery manufacturer to get a read on business activity. In addition to showing us new product, Jay Carlson explained that while business is tough, retailers are looking to the future and the opportunities that lie ahead in their respective markets.

He also talked about the company’s expanded footprint in Vietnam where it is building not only upholstery, but has also expanded its line with occasional furniture designed to tie in with its stationary and motion footprints. Carlson also explains how this benefits retailers from a logistics perspective as they can have the upholstery and occasional ship on the same container, filling up added space in the same can without having to fill up separate containers. This is part of the value story the company continues to offer its customers not only as the industry continues to navigate challenging times, but also looking forward to better times ahead.

Shing Mark will produce occasional line with coordinating wood finishes in nearby plant

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — Upholstery manufacturer Nice Link Home Furnishings now has 200,000 square feet of dedicated production for its Vietnamese-made upholstery line that the company said doubles its production capacity for stationary and motion furniture produced in Vietnam.

When the company launched its Vietnamese line last year, it was produced in a plant owned and operated by manufacturer Shing Mark. Nice Link is also leasing its new manufacturing space from Shing Mark, but the difference is that it is a separate facility on the same campus with 10 production lines and the ability to produce 300 containers per month, double the previous capacity.

Production is expected to begin in May. However, the new facility already has produced 23 collections of leather and fabric upholstery the company is showing at the April High Point Market. A stationary wood-base sectional produced in the facility is expected to retail around $1,999 in fabric and $2,999 in leather. A stationary three-over-three-seat sofa in fabric would retail around $699 while a leather version would retail from $999 to $1,199.

The 4282 Grandview motion leather sectional is made in Vietnam and retails from $3,999 to $4,299 for seven pieces, including two consoles.

A motion double power sofa produced in the facility would retail around $1,399 while a fabric version would retail from $999 to $1,099.

The groups feature wood trim and accents that coordinate with occasional pieces that Shing Mark is also producing for Nice Link. At market, it is offering 15 curated collections that work together with the Vietnamese-made sofa and sectional groupings. The occasional groups also feature mixed-media elements such as terrazzo and white marble tops that add a decorative element to the mix.

As the two facilities are part of the same campus, the manufacturing facilities can coordinate wood finishes on the occasional tables and the wood-trim upholstery, creating an opportunity for retailers to showcase the pieces together on their floors.

The 9648 Sidekick stationary leather sofa is also made in Vietnam and retails from $1,699 to $1,999

Nice Link’s China operations continue to provide cut-and-sew materials for the Vietnam-made groups, combining the resources of both countries.

“The dual strategy executed across our well-established China operation and burgeoning Vietnam business communicates to our current and prospective customers that we are committed to finding solutions and paths to mutual growth through the challenges of tariffs, supply chain and whatever comes our way,” said Jay Carlson, Nice Link president.

By using China’s expertise in cut-and-sew leathers and fabrics, Carlson noted that the company is providing a line that ultimately offers better-end product at a value for its customers, retailers and designers alike.

“We are utilizing everything that is great about Nice Link,” Carlson added of the quality fabric and leather kits provided by China combined with the production capabilities of Vietnamese workers. “We have to have better product.”

With the Vietnam plant, Nice Link will be overseeing the operation with the help of its expat team of Chinese line management and staff skilled in upholstery production.

Business, of course, will dictate how much of the capacity it uses in the new facility. But Carlson also noted that the model is designer-quality product “where the volume comes down a little.”

Within the same facility, the company also has the opportunity to add more lines to reach the plant’s full capacity.

“We have the flexibility to add more because we have the space and we have the labor,” Carlson said. “We have the ability to add as we see is needed.”

At the High Point Market, the company is also showing a number of new and top-selling upholstery groups from its China plant, representing a mix of “tariff-free and high-end motion and stationary products.”

And starting with this market, the company’s showroom also occupies the entire 10th floor of Market Square Tower, which provides a 360-degree view of downtown High Point. Totaling 16,000 square feet, the space has an additional 1,600-square feet formerly occupied by offices of the late Dave Phillips. In addition to a new kitchen and bar area, the company added three more showroom spaces with the additional square footage.
