by SEATTLE — Amazon has recalled 11,400 of its executive desk chairs because of a fall and injury hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.
The CPSC said that the base of the Amazon Basics executive desk chairs can break, which could cause it to collapse under the weight of the user.
The company has received 13 reports of the chair leg bases breaking, including one report of a minor shoulder injury.
The recall involves the Amazon Basics executive desk chair, which was sold in black, brown and white vinyl. It has padded armrests and five legs with rolling casters and a seat that can be adjusted for height and backrest tilt.
Made in China by Global Furniture (Zhejiang) Co. Ltd., it was imported by Amazon.com Services LLC of Seattle and sold online at Amazon.com from September 2021 through April 2022 for between $103 and $170.
The CPSC said that only the chairs with a horizontal plastic piece on the bottom of the caster bracket are included in the recall.
The agency has advised consumers to immediately stop using the recalled chairs and contact Amazon for instructions on how to dispose of the chairs for a full refund. To obtain this refund, consumers will be asked to upload a photo of the chair’s leg base and certify that they have disposed of the chair.
After the company receives this information from the consumer, it will issue them a full refund to a valid payment method in the consumer’s Amazon wallet or on an Amazon gift card. The CPSC said the company is contacting all known purchasers directly.
