Universal will showcase multiple designs from its Coastal Living Outdoor collection, which includes dining and lounging furnishings in multiple weather-resistant materials such as powder coated aluminum, grade-A teak, cast concrete and all-weather wicker.

The new Saratoga Collection, introduced at spring High Point Market will be featured in the space. This modern Adirondack-inspired collection features outdoor seating, lounging, and dining furniture characterized by its angled seat back and classic wide planking. Crafted from solid teak (with a warm weathered-teak finish) and cast aluminum, accented with cast concrete details, each piece exudes a sense of rustic elegance and simplicity.

The antimicrobial foam cushions in the Coastal Living Outdoor collection can be customized with one of more than 500 fabrics, including both Sunbrella brand fabrics and InsideOut performance fabrics. And customers can opt for COM upholstery to tailor their pieces to specific preferences.

by Susan Hable. Showcased in the company’s temporary showroom at AmericasMart Atlanta, Building 1, Floor 7, in Space 846, these outdoor selections will be revealed to the Casual Market clientele July 15-18.

The early reaction to Hickory Chair’s Hable Outdoor collections has inspired designers to extend the aesthetic of interior living spaces into client’s outdoor living spaces. While these four collections are available as stand-alone groupings, designers have discovered their strength as they were designed to mix perfectly together. The ability to select items from the Aswan Teak, Yara Woven and Ibis Metal collections will allow designers to create personalized outdoor living spaces for their clients.

“I was given complete creative freedom to design these outdoor collections,” Hable said. “This comes from a mutual trust between our companies and an alignment of vision for the future. Being at the heart of the collection comes with several criteria that I tried to meet … classic shapes, timeless design, special and appropriate in many kinds of settings from gardens, back porches and pool sides that would appeal to the talented designers across the industry that look to Hickory Chair for inspiration. The reaction has been wonderful, and seeing images from their installations has been truly inspirational for me!”

The Haret and Ibis collections were crafted in metal, Aswan in teak and Yara in a synthetic weave with teak feet. They showcase not only the distinctiveness of the materials, but also the talent of the craftspeople that have handcrafted each piece. Distinctive finishes were created for each collection. The company will support this new category and collection with a robust assortment of Hickory Chair outdoor fabrics and a collaboration with Sunbrella with its Trivantage Fusion fabric program.

The term Haret can be translated as the cabin at the heart of the forest, the caretaker and the center of things. This term is the perfect name for the largest of the Hable outdoor collections. Hand cast in aluminum and then powder coated in a choice of two
finishes, the lyrical lines of the product are contrasted by a unique fretwork pattern that creates a charming pattern on the
seat and back of seating pieces and the tops of the tables. The fret motif was designed exclusively for this collection.

The gentle scallop of the top rail was intended to provide a beautiful swaying motion to the back of the chair that follows the arc of the arms and the saber legs of the Haret collection. The series was thoughtfully designed to be elegant and beautiful even when its cushions are stored. Finished in Cloud White or Smoke Gray, its subtly silky surface is the finishing touch that seals its grace. The company also offers custom finishes on these two metal collections.

The Ibis collection is named for an Egyptian bird with a distinctive long curved beak that has been idolized from ancient times. Inspired from Susan’s travels to Egypt by hieroglyphics depicting birds with its long lines and beaks, the Ibis bird was revered for its dramatic features and its non-confrontational demeanor. Known as a symbol of integrity and balance, the Ibis collection reflects these attributes.

The Ibis collection’s graceful forms blend beautifully into nature. Crafted in metal, the Ibis collection is standard in an antiqued Verdigris finish. At Casual Market, a second finish, Cloud White, will be introduced for the Ibis collection.

The southern Egyptian city of Aswan is an ancient city located along the Nile River. It is arid, exotic and is considered the “Egyptian Paradise.” Known as one of the sunniest places on Earth, it is the inspiration for the new Aswan collection. Solid teak was chosen as its
textural Driftwood finish is reminiscent of the arid desert and the sound icons left from antiquity.

“Outdoor teak furniture will naturally develop a gray tone, and the grain will become more open over time,” Hable said. “I wanted to develop a finish that would already have this coloration and texture to enjoy. Each Aswan teak piece will naturally age like the standing statues and obelisks that have stood the test of time.”

Susan’s intention for the Yara Woven collection was to design a woven pattern that would be completely sculpted by weaving a beautiful woven pattern with recycled synthetic cane on each piece by hand. Artisans start the process with one corner of the powder-coated aluminum frame and weave the cane like a basket until the end is tied off.

“The Graystone color of the synthetic woven material was inspired by my travel to Sea Ranch, California, where homes and buildings are designed to melt into the landscape,” she said. “Thoughtfully designed, the feet on the Yara sofa and loveseat are made from teak finished in the Aswan Teak finish.

“Warmth and a light breeze are some of my favorite things as a new season begins,” she added. “It is new growth, warm sunshine, and first light walks to survey new buds, leaves and even weeds that bring joy to my heart and purpose as I touch my paintbrush to canvas. It is not by chance that the lines of our unique outdoor designs mirror the natural world. Each collection has elements that reflect the pleasure in outdoor living. I believe that people will naturally linger longer in our thoughtfully designed furniture.”

Once again, we celebrate not only the start to the summer season but also one of the biggest furniture sale holidays of the year this weekend. For those not at the beach, a picnic or a camping trip, this is the perfect time to shop for furniture. We mean that. And it’s not just a hunch. As usual around this time of year, we have scoured the web and found a host of aggressive promotions offered by furniture retailers around the country. From major discounts on multiple categories, to low or no-cost financing, it’s a great time to be a consumer in the market for furniture.

Below are some of the retailer websites that caught our eye and what types of deals they are offering. As always, we hope the holiday weekend provides a much-needed boost to the industry at a time when consumers’ attention has been diverted to other purchases, from travel and autos to dining out and other forms of entertainment. American Furniture Warehouse is offering low prices on a wide variety of items, ranging from sofas, sectionals and accent chairs to bedroom furniture and outdoor seating and dining furniture. Its website presents many of these items with other companion pieces for the room or outdoor setting and also shows images where customers can zoom in and see what it looks like in a room.

Gallery Furniture’s holiday promotion includes major discounts on single items available at reduced prices ranging from mattresses and sofas to sectionals and outdoor settees. Consumers can see the new prices in comparison to the original price to see what type of discounts they can get on certain items. In addition, the company is giving away 200 mattresses for those affected by recent flooding in the Houston area.

City Furniture is offering up to 20% off for its Memorial Day sales event. The site has hundreds of items on sale for every room in the home, showing customers the original price next to the new price in bright red. On the site, they can also apply for the retailer’s VIP City Furniture credit card, which offers flexible financing and other benefits.

La-Z-Boy’s promotion offers 30% off everything minus certain other advertised items, styles and products on clearance. It also offers free local delivery for orders with a minimum purchases of $999. Customers visiting the site can also see various upholstery items in different fabrics and from different angles with a 3D visualization tool.

Ashley is offering some aggressive deals on bedroom, dining, living room and outdoor furniture. On upholstery, customers have a chance to see items on the website in different fabrics while also taking note of the many discounts available. In some cases, the prices have not been lowered just once, but twice, giving the customer even more reason to shop the line. A Design Services tab also lets customers receive virtual home decor advice from its team of design experts.

Havertys Furniture is billing this as its Best Sale of the Season, offering not only a wide mix of product on sale, but also 0% interest for purchases of $4,999 or more and with a minimum of 10% down. The site lets consumers see how much they can save by spending a particular amount, including $600 savings on purchases of $4,000 up to $7,500.

Rooms To Go has great deals on furniture for every room in the home along with outdoor furniture, plus bedding, wall art, rugs and accents. An offer of 55 months of interest-free financing makes the deal more attractive, particularly in these tough times where most are watching every dollar they spend. The site also has a bonus buys tab where a customer can receive additional savings on extra items they add to the room, such as a chest with the purchase of a bedroom and discounts on recliners purchased along with a sectional.

Nebraska Furniture Mart’s sale covers a wide mix of furniture for every room in the home as well as outdoor. Consumers also can get discounts on mattresses, baby and kids furniture, office furniture and indoor recreation products. Other discounts can be found on flooring, electronics and appliances plus items available on clearance. As the site notes, free shipping is also available on most items as is 24-month financing on purchases over $699 with the NFM credit card.

Kittle’s Furniture is offering specials of 30% or more on different products on its floors. Customers can browse the site by category and see different angles of the product along with the sale prices in red next to the original prices crossed out in black. Customers also can order the item online or see it at a specific store location. In addition, the retailer is offering special finance options for customers using the Kittle’s Furniture preferred customer credit card.

The Memorial Day sale at Bacon’s Furniture includes special promotions on items such as the Stressless seating line. Other discounts are available on Nourison Home, Tommy Bahama, Palliser, Tempur-Pedic and Beautyrest, to name several key vendors. Other brands are also highlighted on its website including Hooker, Canadel, Barcalounger, Best Home Furnishings, Magnussen Home, Liberty Furniture, Riverside, Universal, Vaughan-Bassett and more.

The Memorial Day sales event at Schewels Home includes a special promotion offering an extra $100 off on purchases of $999 or more. Its website also showcases specials available online along with financing options that show how much they need to pay each month based on what they spend in total. The site also lets customers choose fabrics on certain pieces and also lets them know the locations where they can see and buy the item on the sales floor.

“Your Season of Savings is now,” reads the Bassett Furniture website. Customers are offered up to 30% off original prices on select items that are shown on the site with the original price alongside the discounted price. Special buys of up to 50% off are also available. In addition to the discounts, the site helps educate the customer about product specifications, shipping and delivery, and cleaning and care for each item. Product photography also shows the item in a room scene and with close-ups that highlight various details such as the finish or fabric.

HOM Furniture’s sale includes an extra 10% off sale prices with purchases of $999 or more. The same offer also lets customers purchase with no interest for three years, also on purchases of $999 and up. Other special promotions are available on a wide mix of product seen on the company’s site, including outdoor furniture from Seasonal Concepts, along with bedrooms, living room furniture and mattresses.

Jerome’s Furniture is offering customers the option of 60-month no-interest financing on qualifying purchases with their Jerome’s credit card or having the store cover their sales tax. The deal requires no down payment or minimum purchase. However, they must go to the store to take advantage of these savings. There are plenty of other incentives, too, including sales on items throughout the line and the opportunity to get items free with certain purchases, such as a free bench with a five-piece dining set and a free recliner with the purchase of a motion sofa, for example.

The Memorial Day sale at Arhaus is offering thousands of items at steep discounts, making products for every room of the home, along with outdoor, available at competitive prices. Discounts of 20% are available, for example on all bedroom and outdoor furniture. On the site, customers can also view certain items available in different fabric and finish options, allowing them the chance to customize their piece right before their eyes.

Baer’s is offering specials throughout the line, including a bonus 10% off on Lexington, Tommy Bahama Home, Sligh and Barclay Butera. It also is offering free furniture deliveries with the purchase of a mattress along with savings of up to $1,200 with the purchase of select Serta and Beautyrest mattress sets.

Belfort Furniture has a number of incentives for customers to buy furniture this holiday weekend including the ability to save $50 for every $500 spent. Customers also have the opportunity to save on select upholstery and outdoor furniture sets and on clearance items and closeouts. Items featuring blue tags are available at an additional 20% off.

Raymour & Flanigan is offering savings of up to 30% as part of its holiday weekend promotion. The sale covers a wide mix of product including adult and youth bedrooms, living room sets, dining furniture, home entertainment, home office, outdoor furniture and more. Discounts are shown next to the original prices, and customers also can see how much they would need to pay at a minimum for financing over about 48 months. TORONTO, Canada– Bellini Modern Living continues to meet the needs of today’s on-trend consumers with the anticipated launch of a 16-piece, Made-in-Italy outdoor furniture collection that is durable enough for outdoor living, but has the style and comfort of indoor products. The new collection will be unveiled in the Bellini showroom IHFC H520 at the Spring High Point Market, April 13 to 17, 2024.

Entirely made in Italy, the new collection encompasses modern upholstered silhouettes and occasional tables designed to further blur the lines between indoor and outdoor furnishings. Covered in Italian performance fabrics that make for care-free living indoors, as well as out, the new collection—exclusive to Bellini in North and South America—is particularly appropriate for family rooms, California rooms and other lounge and sitting spaces that connect to covered patios, lanais, and backyards.

“More and more people are gravitating toward spaces that embrace the outdoors, but with all the comforts associated with being indoors,” said Hossein Azimi, chief executive officer of Bellini Modern Living. “Particularly in California, Texas and Florida, the trend in new home building is to include spaces that open directly to the outdoors. Often, these interior spaces incorporate glass walls, and making it work visually requires moving beyond the ubiquitous faux wicker and plastic outdoor furniture sold in the big box stores, to more residential interior looks, with unique and comfortable upholstered pieces in fabrics that appear as though they shouldn’t be left to the elements.”

Indeed, according to the executive, the new collection incorporates high-grade performance fabrics, including textures, like boucle, that are rarely associated with outdoor living. Underneath, the sofas are constructed with foam encased with polyester nylon—making them impervious to water.

“Water simply won’t penetrate the foam, so even after a hard rain, you don’t have to wait long to go back outside and enjoy sitting on the furniture,” Azimi said.

ATLANTA — Registration is now open for the second annual summer Casual Market Atlanta — with nearly 170 permanent showrooms and temporary exhibits and an expanded slate of events and education — July 15-18 at AmericasMart Atlanta.

In a move intended to support the needs of outdoor furnishings retailers and designers with a complete buying experience when it best suits the demands of their businesses, Andmore and ICFA are expanding the 2024 editions of Casual Market Atlanta with a significant new educational opportunity in July and the addition of temporary exhibits in September.

The summer Casual Market Atlanta runs July 15-18 and the fall show runs Sept. 16-18 at AmericasMart Atlanta.

“These updates to Casual Market Atlanta signal the embrace of AmericasMart Atlanta as the casual and outdoor industry’s new marketplace home,” says Bob Maricich, CEO of Andmore. “With these changes, Casual Market Atlanta now offers equal sourcing opportunities, as well as expanded education and networking, in both July and September.”

Educational Opportunities Expand in July

Beginning this year, the International Casual Furnishings Association will reinstate its Retail Roundtable and Think Tank program, a long-standing, half-day educational program, at the summer Casual Market Atlanta. The afternoon session, open to buyers and designers, is scheduled on Sunday, July 14, one day prior to the opening of permanent showrooms and temporary exhibits.

“Since its inception more than a decade ago, ICFA’s Retail Roundtable has been one of the most popular events for dealers to gain new insights about their store operations by learning and sharing experiences with fellow merchants,” says Jackie Hirschhaut, ICFA executive director. “The Think Tank component was added a few years ago to create a quick-thinking, problem-solving exercise that generated immediate advice for participants to bring back to their stores.” A portion of each registration fee is donated to City of Hope, ICFA’s philanthropy partner.

The new ICFA premarket programming complements current summer Casual Market Atlanta offerings: 165+ combined casual furniture and outdoor accessories permanent showrooms and temporary exhibits presented on seven floors in Building 1 at AmericasMart Atlanta, along with hallmark at-market education and networking. A series of ICFA-hosted events are among highlights of the summer edition: the ICFA 66th Birthday Bash, Pink Out benefitting City of Hope, the ICFA Awards Gala plus the ICFA Annual Membership and Board meetings.

Sourcing Opportunities Extend in September

Beginning in September, the fall Casual Market will welcome the return of temporary exhibits to complement permanent showroom offerings. To align with these changes, the September trade show will be renamed Fall Casual Market Atlanta.

With these changes, Fall Casual Market Atlanta now offers a combined 115+ permanent showrooms and temporary exhibits presented on six floors in Building 1 at AmericasMart Atlanta. Other September offerings include educational programming and continuation of the popular “Braves & Brews” baseball event first held in 2023.

In addition to the twice-yearly editions of Casual Market Atlanta, AmericasMart Atlanta presents additional business opportunities for casual and outdoor buyers and sellers alike. Backrest and legs can break when a user is seated, posing a fall hazard

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — HEB Grocery Co. has recalled about 1,400 lounge chairs whose back and legs can break when a consumer is seated, posing a fall hazard.

The recall involves the Haven & Key leather woven chairs, also referred to as the Lovina chairs. Although the company has received 11 reports of the chair back or legs cracking or breaking, no injuries have been reported.

However, for safety reasons, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has advised consumers to stop using the recalled chairs immediately and to return them to the company for a full refund. The grocery store chain is also contacting all known purchasers directly.

The chairs were sold in black and brown and have the following UPC codes: 4122089244 for the black version and 4122091920 for the brown version. These codes can be found on the chairs’ hangtag.

Made by UD Surya Abadi Furniture of Indonesia, they were imported and distributed by HEB Grocery Co. of San Antonio. They were sold in H‑E‑B stores in Texas and online at www.heb.com from April 2022 through April 2023 for about $300.

Although there were no reported injuries, the recall lets other retailers know the possible hazards associated with this type of chair construction, as seen in the product photo accompanying this story.
