ATLANTA — Participating in the summer Casual Market Atlanta for the first time in the company’s storied history, Hickory Chair will enjoy this inaugural launch into outdoor living spaces with the introduction of four distinctive outdoor furniture collections designed
by Susan Hable. Showcased in the company’s temporary showroom at AmericasMart Atlanta, Building 1, Floor 7, in Space 846, these outdoor selections will be revealed to the Casual Market clientele July 15-18.

Susan Hable

The early reaction to Hickory Chair’s Hable Outdoor collections has inspired designers to extend the aesthetic of interior living spaces into client’s outdoor living spaces. While these four collections are available as stand-alone groupings, designers have discovered their strength as they were designed to mix perfectly together. The ability to select items from the Aswan Teak, Yara Woven and Ibis Metal collections will allow designers to create personalized outdoor living spaces for their clients.

“I was given complete creative freedom to design these outdoor collections,” Hable said. “This comes from a mutual trust between our companies and an alignment of vision for the future. Being at the heart of the collection comes with several criteria that I tried to meet … classic shapes, timeless design, special and appropriate in many kinds of settings from gardens, back porches and pool sides that would appeal to the talented designers across the industry that look to Hickory Chair for inspiration. The reaction has been wonderful, and seeing images from their installations has been truly inspirational for me!”

The Haret and Ibis collections were crafted in metal, Aswan in teak and Yara in a synthetic weave with teak feet. They showcase not only the distinctiveness of the materials, but also the talent of the craftspeople that have handcrafted each piece. Distinctive finishes were created for each collection. The company will support this new category and collection with a robust assortment of Hickory Chair outdoor fabrics and a collaboration with Sunbrella with its Trivantage Fusion fabric program.

The term Haret can be translated as the cabin at the heart of the forest, the caretaker and the center of things. This term is the perfect name for the largest of the Hable outdoor collections. Hand cast in aluminum and then powder coated in a choice of two
finishes, the lyrical lines of the product are contrasted by a unique fretwork pattern that creates a charming pattern on the
seat and back of seating pieces and the tops of the tables. The fret motif was designed exclusively for this collection.

The gentle scallop of the top rail was intended to provide a beautiful swaying motion to the back of the chair that follows the arc of the arms and the saber legs of the Haret collection. The series was thoughtfully designed to be elegant and beautiful even when its cushions are stored. Finished in Cloud White or Smoke Gray, its subtly silky surface is the finishing touch that seals its grace. The company also offers custom finishes on these two metal collections.

The Ibis collection is named for an Egyptian bird with a distinctive long curved beak that has been idolized from ancient times. Inspired from Susan’s travels to Egypt by hieroglyphics depicting birds with its long lines and beaks, the Ibis bird was revered for its dramatic features and its non-confrontational demeanor. Known as a symbol of integrity and balance, the Ibis collection reflects these attributes.

The Ibis collection’s graceful forms blend beautifully into nature. Crafted in metal, the Ibis collection is standard in an antiqued Verdigris finish. At Casual Market, a second finish, Cloud White, will be introduced for the Ibis collection.

The southern Egyptian city of Aswan is an ancient city located along the Nile River. It is arid, exotic and is considered the “Egyptian Paradise.” Known as one of the sunniest places on Earth, it is the inspiration for the new Aswan collection. Solid teak was chosen as its
textural Driftwood finish is reminiscent of the arid desert and the sound icons left from antiquity.

“Outdoor teak furniture will naturally develop a gray tone, and the grain will become more open over time,” Hable said. “I wanted to develop a finish that would already have this coloration and texture to enjoy. Each Aswan teak piece will naturally age like the standing statues and obelisks that have stood the test of time.”

Susan’s intention for the Yara Woven collection was to design a woven pattern that would be completely sculpted by weaving a beautiful woven pattern with recycled synthetic cane on each piece by hand. Artisans start the process with one corner of the powder-coated aluminum frame and weave the cane like a basket until the end is tied off.

“The Graystone color of the synthetic woven material was inspired by my travel to Sea Ranch, California, where homes and buildings are designed to melt into the landscape,” she said. “Thoughtfully designed, the feet on the Yara sofa and loveseat are made from teak finished in the Aswan Teak finish.

“Warmth and a light breeze are some of my favorite things as a new season begins,” she added. “It is new growth, warm sunshine, and first light walks to survey new buds, leaves and even weeds that bring joy to my heart and purpose as I touch my paintbrush to canvas. It is not by chance that the lines of our unique outdoor designs mirror the natural world. Each collection has elements that reflect the pleasure in outdoor living. I believe that people will naturally linger longer in our thoughtfully designed furniture.”

Our employees are focused on making the finest indoor and now outdoor furnishings in the marketplace for our loyal clientele and their clients,” said Laura Holland, vice president of marketing at Hickory Chair. “Expanding into the outdoor category is a natural progression for our company. We believe that we have once again revealed the incredible talent, collaboration and vision our Hickory Chair family has not only for today, but the future.”

HIGH POINT — Global furniture brand, Sunpan is celebrating the success of its busiest market in company history at the recently concluded spring show in High Point, North Carolina.

The company said its showroom at Showplace 1200 witnessed significant foot traffic during the Spring High Point Market and noted that “increased attendance and a higher volume of orders signaled strong buyer intent and a confidence in the brand that comes on the back of the company’s newly opened U.S. warehouse in Houston, Texas.”

Throughout the five-day event, Sunpan said its customers showed interest in its recently introduced sculptural lighting forms, and the “warm tones of its latest launches” in sofas, beds, lounge chairs and bar and counter stools. “The enthusiasm towards these new introductions and the higher order intake reflects Sunpan’s ability to consistently deliver on-trend designs that resonate with buyer preferences,” the company noted.

Sunpan’s team seen at its showroom at Showplace 1200 during the April High Point Market.

“It is immensely gratifying to see the growth of our brand over the last few years,” said Sundeep Bagga, president and chief executive officer of Sunpan. “Our persistent focus on offering high quality designs at an approachable price point coupled with top-tier customer experiences continues to deliver results.”

The show also witnessed an uptick in orders of contract-viable designs that are ideal for commercial environments. Contract products continue to be a strong growth driver for the business.

Following the success of High Point Market, the company showed at the HD Expo in Las Vegas from April 30 to May 2 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Sunpan said will continue to exhibit at several shows through the remainder of this year including the summer Las Vegas Market, the October High Point Market, and BDNY in New York City.

As business continues to evolve, Sunpan added that it remains “committed to its growth plans for 2024.” The company is adding new warehousing space and building a state-of-the-art photography studio at its headquarters in Toronto, Canada. It is also investing in new resources and is expanding its product, marketing, supply chain, accounting, and warehousing teams.

Addition of 10,000 square feet brings total space in C-700 of the IHFC to 40,000, allowing company to showcase a broader mix of product in more lifestyle vignettes

HIGH POINT — Full-line indoor and outdoor furniture resource Furniture of America is expanding its showroom here by about 10,000 square feet, bringing the total to 40,000 square feet of space.

The expansion in its existing Space C-700 of the International Home Furnishings Center allows the company to showcase a wider mix of new and inline products across its case goods and upholstery segments. At the upcoming April market, the company said that about half the mix will include new products.

A majority of these will be in the bedroom and dining categories, and the expanded space allows the company to showcase more coordinating collections featuring both categories.

The new product will also include youth furniture, showcasing the company’s presence in a category many case goods resources have long since abandoned. Its youth furniture mix also includes bunk beds featuring the company’s patented lock joint system that combined with hardwood construction aims to create more stability.

“Safety is a No. 1 priority when we produce youth beds, particularly bunk beds,” said Jodi Brookshire, corporate vice president of sales and marketing. “We invented this patented system several years ago, and it has been an amazing feature that makes our beds a preferred choice among dealers.”

In addition to case goods, the mix also showcases upholstery in lifestyle vignettes, offering dealers ideas of how to incorporate and showcase the mix on their own floors.

“The new footprint will give us much needed space to show not just more product, but the new and exclusive items our product team has been hard at work on over the last six months,” Brookshire added. “Our focus is to show innovative new products as well as the enhancements we have been making to our existing product line.”

She added that dealers also will see new designs and product enhancements at sharpened price points they have not seen previously in the line.

“Quality always remains a top priority with the FOA brand,” she added, noting that the investments the company has made in QC and product development will be appealing to many dealers.

Home furnishings industry style leader relocates after nearly 40 years in International Home Furnishings Center

HIGH POINT — Palecek, a manufacturer and wholesaler of furniture, lighting, accessories and wall décor made with natural mixed media elements, is moving to a showroom space in the Hamilton Design District after nearly 40 years at the International Home Furnishings Center.

This spring, the company is moving to Suite 200 of 200 N. Hamilton, where it is occupying the entire first floor of the building, which also houses the High Point showroom of luxury case goods and upholstery manufacturer Hickory Chair. At 24,000 square feet, it is about double the size of its former location.

The space also will showcase product within the company’s growing outdoor brand, which features furnishings inspired by and that use a mix of natural materials that the company describes as “crafted for durability.”

Andrew T. Palecek

“This stunning location enables us to offer a whole new level of visual storytelling and a greatly enhanced shopping experience,” said Palecek Chief Creative Officer Andrew T. Palecek. “The space gives us the opportunity to show how our natural-inspired indoor and outdoor collections can bring beauty, warmth and texture to an endless variety of settings, from urban to coastal and traditional to contemporary.”

“We’re particularly excited to have such an expansive space in which to show those products in a full range of exquisitely merchandised settings,” Palecek added.

David Beld, Palecek president of sales and business development, said that “as a company that prides itself on partnership and lasting relationships, we’re looking forward to introducing our new showroom to the High Point buyers. We’re thrilled that it will provide enhanced opportunities to welcome our design community, including a large hospitality area, as well as meeting spaces where we can welcome designers for events, CEU programs and more.”

Palecek’s new High Point location at 200 N. Hamilton St.

Company founder and Chairman Allan Palecek said he is proud about the move to the Hamilton Design District.

“When my wife, Nancy, and I started this company in 1974, I didn’t imagine a brand that is now so recognized and respected — or a location of this scope and beauty,” Palecek said. “Now, half a century later, I’m grateful to all the people I’ve worked within the U.S. and abroad, and proud that my son, Andrew Palecek, is leading the company toward a bright future. This showroom is a perfect setting for that future to unfold.”

The move also marks the company’s continued dedication to the High Point Market, where it has had many years of success unveiling thousands of new design statements within its indoor and outdoor product lines.

“High Point remains a dynamic and growing destination for our industry, and we’re honored to be a part of this community,” Andrew Palecek said, thanking Andmore executives Bob Maricich, Julie Messner and Kimberly Cox “for helping us to make this expansion happen. And a big thank you to all our customers, partners and everyone on the Palecek team for their dedication and incredible support. This beautiful new space is for all of you to enjoy and is a proud moment for our brand.”

TORONTO, Canada– Bellini Modern Living continues to meet the needs of today’s on-trend consumers with the anticipated launch of a 16-piece, Made-in-Italy outdoor furniture collection that is durable enough for outdoor living, but has the style and comfort of indoor products. The new collection will be unveiled in the Bellini showroom IHFC H520 at the Spring High Point Market, April 13 to 17, 2024.

Entirely made in Italy, the new collection encompasses modern upholstered silhouettes and occasional tables designed to further blur the lines between indoor and outdoor furnishings. Covered in Italian performance fabrics that make for care-free living indoors, as well as out, the new collection—exclusive to Bellini in North and South America—is particularly appropriate for family rooms, California rooms and other lounge and sitting spaces that connect to covered patios, lanais, and backyards.

“More and more people are gravitating toward spaces that embrace the outdoors, but with all the comforts associated with being indoors,” said Hossein Azimi, chief executive officer of Bellini Modern Living. “Particularly in California, Texas and Florida, the trend in new home building is to include spaces that open directly to the outdoors. Often, these interior spaces incorporate glass walls, and making it work visually requires moving beyond the ubiquitous faux wicker and plastic outdoor furniture sold in the big box stores, to more residential interior looks, with unique and comfortable upholstered pieces in fabrics that appear as though they shouldn’t be left to the elements.”

Indeed, according to the executive, the new collection incorporates high-grade performance fabrics, including textures, like boucle, that are rarely associated with outdoor living. Underneath, the sofas are constructed with foam encased with polyester nylon—making them impervious to water.

“Water simply won’t penetrate the foam, so even after a hard rain, you don’t have to wait long to go back outside and enjoy sitting on the furniture,” Azimi said.

In line with Bellini Modern Living’s aesthetic, the collection has a luxurious, modern feel, and is aggressively priced with suggested retails ranging from $1,600 to $2,599 for a sofa, and $499 to $599 for a chair. The collection is available in a variety of fabrics, colors, and configurations.  It is in stock and available for immediate delivery.

Arrival of Chinese New Year and Tet highlights winter season of shows in Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia and China

With much anticipation, we along with the rest of the industry welcome the new year — including Chinese New Year and Tet, which start on Feb. 10.

As our New Year celebrations in the West harkened the approach of the furniture industry’s winter show season in the Western hemisphere, so does the start of the Chinese New Year. For many, the Asian show circuit that begins in late February marks a wide mix of events and furniture to see throughout the Asian region.

Here is a brief rundown of some of the major shows taking place from late February through late March:

+ The Vietnam International Furniture and Home Accessories Fair takes place Feb. 26-29 at the Sky Expo in Ho Chi Minh City. With about 360,000 square feet of space, the event showcases product from about 600 manufacturers of furniture, home décor and accessories, hardware, machinery and support services and handicrafts. In addition, the show offers business matching services, seminars and tours of factories in the region.

Last year, the show drew about 18,000 visitors, including about 6,000 from outside Vietnam. In order, the areas outside Vietnam with the highest attendance included China, the U.S., Australia, Japan, France, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Europe, India, Korea and Hong Kong.

+ The Indonesia International Furniture Expo — IFEX for short — takes place Feb. 29-March 3 at the Jakarta International Expo. The show presents offerings from 450 companies, many of which highlight the country’s strength in wood manufacturing and the use of natural mixed media elements. In addition to furniture, the show features arts and crafts, pottery and other decorative items for the home, according to the show website.

The event draws more than 12,000 visitors from 115 countries. For more information, visit, https://ifexindonesia.com/.

+ Billing itself as Southeast Asia’s largest trade show, the Malaysian International Furniture Fair takes place March 1-4 at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre and the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur. As with previous shows, there is convenient shuttle service between both venues, allowing visitors to shop the estimated 650 manufacturers and exporters showing between the two locations. While the majority of these are from Malaysia, others are from China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. In addition to residential furniture, the show also offers a wide mix of commercial office furniture.

MIFF draws some 20,000 visitors, some 6,000 of which are from 140 countries and regions, including the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

+ On the heels of MIFF is the Export Furniture Exhibition, which is scheduled for March 4-7 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. As with MIFF, the show features a wide mix of residential and commercial office furniture, targeting both domestic and international buyers in both segments. There are about 300 exhibitors, which include mostly Malaysian manufacturers of case goods, upholstery and bedding, plus outdoor seating and dining furniture.

The show typically draws about 15,000 visitors, including buyers from the U.S., Asia, Australia and the Middle East. For more information on the event, visit https://10times.com/exportfurniture-exhibition-kualalumpur.

Between both venues there are some 700 exhibitors showcasing a wide mix of furniture and other home furnishings, plus contract and hospitality furniture, home accessories and gifts and handicrafts.

The show is expected to draw 30,000 buyers and other visitors from 200 countries.
