Units do not comply with some provisions of federal safety standard for crib mattresses, pose suffocation hazard to infants
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Restwell Mattress Co. has recalled about 100 crib mattresses sold at Room & Board because of a suffocation hazard posed to infants.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the Room & Board Natural Organic Latex and Spring Crib mattresses and Natural Organic Latex Crib mattresses fail to comply with multiple provisions of the federal safety standard for crib mattresses, including a firmness test and missing warnings and labels.
Although no injuries have been reported, the CPSC has advised consumers to immediately stop using the units and contact Room & Board for a full refund. Both the retailer and Restwell Mattress Co. also are contacting known purchasers directly and will arrange to pick up the mattresses at no charge, the CPSC said.
Although the number of units recalled is small relative to some larger recalls, the incident lets other retailers and wholesalers know the importance of complying with the federal safety standard.
The recall involves the Natural Organic Latex and Spring Crib (Model no. 847564) and Natural Organic Latex Crib (Model No. 925869) sold under the Room & Board brand. They are 52 inches long and 28 inches wide and have a white top and gray sides with the name Room & Board embroidered on the side of the unit and the model name underneath.
Made in the U.S. by Restwell Mattress Co., they were sold at Room & Board stores nationwide and at www.roomandboard.com from August 2022 through June 2023 for between $350 and $450.
For more information, consumers have been advised to contact Room & Board at 800-301-9720 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Saturday through Sunday.
