Bernards to unveil its largest introduction at upcoming October market

Mix includes the nearly 70-piece Assemblage collection, plus a wide offering of standalone leather upholstery, bedroom, dining room and occasional furniture

HIGH POINT — For the October market cycle, full-line furniture resource Bernards is offering what it describes as the biggest product launch in its history with new product in every core category it offers.

The introductions include the nearly 70-piece Assemblage, which follows on the heels of its 70-piece Citrus Heights collection this past spring.

Made with elm veneers, Assemblage comes in two finishes, including a darker brown Peppercorn and a lighter brown tone called Latte. It has soft, modern design elements as seen in the waterfall edges on various case pieces and occasional tables and the curved footboard of a platform bed as well as the soft curves of sofas, chairs and other seating.

This bedroom is part of Bernards’ new Assemblage collection. It is made with elm veneers and shown in a Peppercorn finish.

The upholstery selection includes a sofa and armless love/chair combo that can be paired up to form a sectional, as well as two other sofas, including an 85-inch version featuring a waterfall-edge design and a 90-inch sofa in semi-aniline top-grain leather all around that retails around $1,799.

There are four beds, including an upholstered panel bed, the waterfall platform bed and a pierced panel bed, all of which retail around $699. There also is a fully upholstered bed with a plinth wood base that retails around $849.

There are three dining tables, including a round table with a pedestal base that seats four comfortably, a junior leg table that seats around eight and a larger double-ped table with a 24-inch leaf that seats 10 comfortably. The small leg table retails at $499.

This double-ped dining table is also part of the Assemblage collection by Bernards.

The collection also includes three occasional sets, including tables with similar waterfall-edge details, further adding to the soft, modern aesthetics of the collection. In addition, Assemblage includes several home entertainment, home office and accent pieces.

Bernards President Micah Swick told Home News Now that the styling aims to appeal to the female consumer. While there are some cleaner-lined forms, the prevalence of curved edges, he noted, highlights the beauty of the wood grain and the softness of upholstered forms, and “hold the attention of the female consumer, which I don’t think has been done very well with modern. … What we are trying to do is appeal to the female shopper. Modern has a place in the market, but so much of what we see in the marketplace is masculine.”

Pieces also incorporate some mixed media including metal accents on the backs of dining chairs and metal ring-pull hardware on bedside chests.

Based on reaction to the collection at premarket, the company expects to put Assemblage into production before Chinese New Year next year and have it available from its warehouses by March.

The company also is introducing two standalone leather sofa sets including a modern and a contemporary footprint featuring sofas that could retail from $899 to $999. In addition, it is showing 12 new bedrooms sets starting at $799 for a four-piece set, 15 dining sets starting at $799 for a table and four chairs, and as many as 20 new occasional sets.

“This will be our biggest market introduction ever,” Swick said, noting that the company pulled out almost all of the older product in the showroom to make room for the new.

“We want to be a disruptor and really bring a strong value to retailers,” he added. “I think it’s going to be important in this environment to differentiate yourself. With foot traffic down, what is going to make the difference are unique looks and value propositions where the customer is going to feel like they are getting more than they are paying for.”

The company is showing its mix of new products in its showroom in Space 201 of the Atrium at 430 S. Main St.
