And the Eddie goes to …

SAN DIEGO —  Cattelan Italia is the winter of the Contemporary Design Group’s 2020 Edward Haimsohn Design Award for its Butterfly Table, featuring a steel base and glass top available in a variety of finishes.

The winner of the seventh annual award was introduced earlier this month during CDG’s first Virtual Annual Conference. The awards presentation segment also included a memorial to the award’s namesake, Edward Haimosohn by his son Howard Haimosohn of San Diego’s Lawrance Furniture. Ed Haimsohn, a founder of CDG died earlier this year.

 “This award is a great tribute to him,” said Howard Haimsohn. “We’re extremely honored and it will serve to be a great memory of his legacy.”

First runner up was the Cubitum Table by Reflex Spa, designed by Riccardo Lucatello. Second runner up went to Herval for their Radi Table designed by Sergio Batista.  The Kai Lounge Chair designed by Stanley Jay Friedman for Thayer Coggin was third runner up and the Elton Re-Invented Recliner designed by Spencer Bass for American Leather took fourth runner up.

The Edward Haimsohn Design award recognizes manufacturers producing outstanding and original furniture designs. A panel of anonymous judges, consisting of CDG retailer members, evaluated nominees on originality, creativity, consumer appeal, use of materials, functionality, and manufacturing execution. 

Other finalists were: Rainier Comfort Air by American Leather; Align Media Storage by BDI; Plane Seating by Bracci; Hatteras Occasional Collection by Charleston Forge; Essential Lighting by Reflex Spa; Quartz Table by Reflex Spa; and XHMT Office Chair by X-Chair. A lookbook of all entries and a video of the complete presentation is available on the Contemporary Design Group website.

The Contemporary Design Group is a national association of independent home furnishings showrooms, specializing in modern and contemporary design. The group has 28 members with 42 showrooms in 39 cities throughout the United States.
