Hooker Furnishings joins the SFC

MARTINSVIILLE, Va. – Hooker Furnishings has joined the more than 400-member Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) “to further its support of positive environmental change within the industry,” it said.

Hooker said its membership demonstrates its commitment to affecting positive change within the industry by supporting the SFC’s core focus, which include “People-Planet-Profits.” This mission represents a healthy balance between social equity, environmental concerns and local economies, all of which are core values for Hooker Furnishings.

Recognizing the importance of incorporating these core beliefs into its daily business practices, Hooker Furnishings has demonstrated its commitment to its own environmental goals as well as the SFC’s through initiatives including reducing greenhouse emissions and participating in community events to enable local communities to work toward a cleaner environment. Additional recent initiatives include its partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation with a focus on reforestation efforts, continually measuring its carbon footprint, and more.

“We are proud to take this significant next step to continue to enhance our corporate social responsibility initiatives,” said Paul Huckfeldt, chief financial officer at Hooker Furnishings. “We are deeply committed to preserving our community so our families, friends and consumers – present and future – will have a healthier place to live. We will now be able to turn to the expertise of the SFC to help us continue – and become even stronger – in these efforts,” he added.

The SFC (501c6) is a coalition of manufacturers, retailers and designers dedicated to raising awareness and expanding the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices across the Home Furnishings Industry. The organization’s mission is to help companies reduce their environmental footprints as they grow, and to help consumers find healthy furnishings.
