Standard Furniture adds Mexican-made upholstery, bedding to its mix

HIGH POINT – Case goods resource Standard Furniture is launching two new categories at the Oct. 16-20 High Point Market with its Mexico-sourced upholstery and bedding.

The company is showing two stationary sofa/loveseat groups and two sectionals produced by its Mexico source factories. The sofas retail from $599 to $899 and the sectionals retail from $899 to $999, Jay Peters, vice president, merchandising at Standard told Home News Now.

While just a small rollout, the groups serve to complement to the U.S.-made offerings from sister upholstery manufacturer Albany Inds.

This is one of two Mexico-sourced sofa, loveseat groups being shown at Standard Furniture during the Oct. 16-20 High Point Market.

“We weren’t doing any stationary upholstery before (at Standard) so it’s a little different category for us, especially with Albany doing all U.S. made product,” Peters said.

Lead times on the Mexico-made upholstery are about seven weeks from order to delivery. Peters added that the company already has preordered some of the product, with orders set to be produced around mid-November.

On the bedding side, the company is showing three Mexico sourced mattresses. They offer a mix of good, better and best price points of $399, $699 and $999, all in queen.

This is not the company’s first venture into Mexico, having sourced case goods from there since the middle of last year. Its Mexico-sourced case goods line includes bedroom, occasional, home entertainment and home office furniture.

Due to the success of that product, which represents roughly 35% of its wood mix, it chose to offer new categories in order to help satisfy the ongoing demand at retail with the quick turnaround times Mexico can offer, not just with production, but also in getting the goods shipped across the border and onto U.S. sales floors.

These and other new and inline goods can be seen at the Standard showroom in space 206 of the Centers of High Point, Hamilton.
