by HIGH POINT — Umotion, a global supplier of motion furniture, is making its debut at this fall’s market in an 11,000-square-foot showroom in Space T-802 at the Suites at Market Square.
And while the company name may be new to retailers shopping the show, Bill Chan, general manager of UE Furniture, is a well-known and well-respected industry veteran having served for many years as a key executive for motion source Man Wah, including as its chief executive of its Mexico subsidiary.
Home News Now recently had an exclusive interview with Chan to learn more about the company, its products and its plans to grow distribution both here and in Canada.
Chan explained that Umotion is an offshoot of UE Furniture Vietnam Co. Ltd., a company well known for the production and distribution of office seating. Knowing of Chan’s success in the motion segment, he was asked to spearhead Umotion and grow distribution in the U.S. and Canada.
“I have been active in the motion segment of the furniture business for some 21 years and am excited to spearhead Umotion. We’ve worked hard and as a result are able to bring a full line of motion products that truly offer top quality at very competitive pricing,” he said.
To that point, Chan is here showing 30 motion frames that offer both manual and power-motion options in a full array of leather and fabric covers. Worth noting is the fact that Chan has also broadened the look of the products that range from traditional, transitional and contemporary.
The line, which is container-only, was already finding favor with a number of Top 100 retailers with one placing an order for more than 60 containers even before the show officially opened.
Chan noted that the company has three factories, one in Vietnam, one in China and one in Romania. The Vietnam factory alone, Chan said, is 1.7 million square feet and can pump out 1,000 containers a month.
The company recently purchased a second, larger factory in Vietnam that is 2.1 million square feet.
Chan said that customers placing an initial order with the company can expect to receive finished goods in about 60 days. Follow-up orders, he maintains, can turn faster and be to customers in about 40 days.
“Ours is truly a story of top quality coupled with sharp pricing,” he said. “We use only top mechanisms, kiln-dried frames and our products can support weight tolerances of 360 pounds,” he said.
