In early May, Home News Now visited the Archdale, N.C. upholstery manufacturing facilities of Stickley Furniture. The tour gave us not only a first-hand look at the handcrafted nature of the custom line, but also an inside view of some of the things the company is doing to boost efficiencies in its production process. In addition to recruiting new labor to the team with some 35 workers it is looking to bring on board in the coming months, the company has shifted to a lean manufacturing model and other improvements all aimed at boosting capacity.
In this video interview, the company sheds light on ways it is recruiting and retaining talent, as well as how it is incorporating lean principles and other efficiencies into its work, including the addition of a new worker training cell. The key takeaway? Along with fashion, speed to market is something the company sees as critical to its growth and something it is confident it can achieve as it lowers order backlogs and lead times to more manageable levels that customers have come to expect – all without sacrificing quality or attention to detail.
