Jofran finds success with new accent cabinet and occasional collections

HIGH POINT — Despite light market attendance, Jofran saw strong response from buyers to its introductions here, including the Carrington accent table collection and Rollins and Ames occasional collections.

All three collections are mixable with the rest of wide assortment in the importer’s Vietnam warehouse, a factor that played heavily into their success here, said CEO Joff Roy.

Carrington, sourced from one of Jofran’s long-term Vietnam partners, adds more of a transitional/traditional feel to Jofran’s existing cabinet assortment of primarily lifestyle and rustic designs. The company employed an updated brushed finish in white, gray and bisque, and the larger 60- and 70-inch pieces feature a breakfront design with heavy top and base moldings.

Retail prices range from about $329 for the 38-inch cabinet to $499 for the 60-inch and $599 for the 70-inch cabinet. Available from its Vietnam warehouse or through its domestic warehouses, Jofran expects to ship Carrington in January for retail floors the following month.

The Rollins and Ames occasional introductions includes a sofa console that can double as a power desk in the case of Rollins, fulfilling the growing demand for work-from-home furniture. Rollins is made of old-growth acacia wood and features pull-through drawers. The three-drawer coffee table can retail for $199, the chairside table for $139 and the end table for $149. The desk/console features two three-prong sockets and two USB connections and could retail for $229.

With Ames, Jofran shoots  for a lifestyle look reminisce of, say, West Elm or Room & Board. It comes with solid acacia tops and an iron tube base, “KD, but rock solid,” said Roy. The projected retail is the same as Rollins for the coffee and end tables and $259 for the sofa console, which also can serve as a general storage piece.

Both are sourced in India and will ship from Jofran’s Vietnam warehouse or be available in U.S. warehouse, the same as Carrington.

“Part of the reason we look to source in India is because we love the craftsmanship of the product, but it’s also a sourcing diversity play,” Roy said.  “Everyone knows there are a lot of timber issues in Vietnam right now, so it makes sense for us to put some eggs in a different basket.”

Asked if India’s climbing COVID cases is leading to any supply chain constraints, Roy said yes, “but probably the bigger problem has to do with (the lack of) containers. That makes shipment that much more variable.”

Still, the company expects Rollins and Ames to ship in about 30 days, and U.S. retailers should see it in January, he said.

Roy added Jofran’s Vietnam warehouse has played into the success of small new collections such as Carrington, Rollins and Ames. That’s because its assortment of other furniture available through the warehouse has grown steadily, so “showing retailers something like this at such an unbelievable value makes the incremental sale very simple,” he said.

“There’s not a lot that has to go into the retailer’s decision to buy because it just flows with everything else they want.”
