WICHITA, Kansas — After 78 years in business, retailer Horton’s Furniture is closing its doors as owners Steve Elpers and Dilman Morris are retiring following the store’s final liquidation sale that starts April 25.
The retailer was founded by Frank and Frances Horton in their hometown of Argonia, Kansas in 1946. After 22 years, they moved the store to Wichita, where it continued to expand and became one of the city’s largest furniture showrooms.
Elpers and Morris purchased the business from the Hortons in 1997 and have since carried on its mission of being a “welcoming place to shop for top quality furniture” while also prioritizing customer service.
“I am grateful to our loyal customers across the states of Kansas and Oklahoma for their patronage over the past 78 years,” Elpers said. “A special thanks to our exceptional staff for their dedication to making Horton’s Furniture a great shopping experience.”
Leading furniture promotional sales specialist Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) is handling the store’s going-out-of-business sales and events.
“It is a great honor for PFP to steward this concluding phase of Horton’s Furniture and we are committed to ensuring that the final liquidation reflects the integrity of products and service for which the company has been known for nearly eight decades,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president of PFP.
The store-closing sale begins April 25. The 55,000-square-foot showroom sells a wide variety of name brands such as Barcalounger, Best, Bassett, Craftmaster, Fjords, Howard Miller, Hooker, HomeStretch, King Hickory, La-Z-Boy, Pulaski, Serta, Simmons and Vaughan-Bassett.
