American Silk taps Oscar Reig-Plaza for CEO post

HIGH POINT — Oscar Reig-Plaza has joined American Silk Mills here as CEO, a new position for the textile company.

Reig-Plaza is the former vice president of sales Covington Fabrics and owner of Barcelona Sales. He joins an executive team that includes veteran home furnishings players Jeff Smith, senior executive vice president-sales and marketing and Kena Cohenour as director of design and merchandising.

Reig-Plaza will also be responsible for American Silk’s parent Sutlej Textiles and Industries Limited’s home textile division. “The operational synergies created by the two companies will enhance the ability for American Silk Mills to create, produce, and distribute an exquisite range of luxury textiles,” the company said in a release.

Sutlej Textiles is the flagship textiles company of the KK Birla Group, headquartered in India and produces a range of products including value-added and specialty yarns, fabrics for home furnishings, contract drapery, and upholstery. It has customers across the globe with a presence in more than 60 countries. Among other things, the company said, it is known for its use of state-of-the-art technology and the implementation of eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing practices and processing, achieving the Global Recycle Standard.

Sutlej employs more than 16,000 employees and has taken measures over and above government mandates to ensure a 100% Covid-19 vaccination rate by September 2021. 

Founded in 1896, American Silk is the oldest American textile brand.
