Universal unveils its outdoor offering at High Point Market

HIGH POINT – With 8,500 square feet of showroom space and more than 100 SKUs, Universal Furniture showed High Point Market goers just how much it was willing to invest in the casual category with its new Coastal Living Outdoor line.

The line, which is the first full outdoor collection for the brand (the company previously had a handful of outdoor collections in the Paula Deen licensed line), is an extension of the company’s popular Coastal Living interior line.

“The addition of outdoor allows our brand to evolve into a true whole-home provider for our customers,” said Universal Furniture Director of Marketing Neil MacKenzie.

Upholstered pieces are made with marine-grade Baltic birch frames, with a sonic welded cover over the foam inside the cushion to permanently seal the fabric and prevent water from entering. Universal produces the upholstered pieces at its Conover, North Carolina, facility, using Sunbrella and Inside Out fabrics.

The line also includes a number of occasional tables in cast concrete with finishes that range from a silky smooth white to a distressed gray, and even an eye-catching rope-covered version. And the collection is scaled slightly smaller than indoor lines—think 28-inch high tables as opposed to 29- or 30-inch heights—to capture a more casual feel.

MacKenzie said the collection had been well-received, so far, and garnered good interest during market.
