by SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – Home furnishings and home décor resource Sagebrook Home is investing $80 million in its new 500,000-square-foot warehouse operation here that is expected to create 117 jobs over time.
Located in Berkeley County, S.C., the facility will serve as the company’s East Coast distribution center for its home décor and wholesale operations.
Operations were expected to come online this month, according to the South Carolina Department of Commerce, which recently posted news about the facility on its website.
The facility is in addition to the company’s distribution center in the Los Angeles area, where the company is based.
“As Sagebrook Home continues to grow, the decision to distribute from both the East and West Coasts seemed a natural evolution,” said company co-CEO Justin Kachan. “With the rising cost of shipping, there was no better time to add bicoastal distribution. This new distribution center gives us the opportunity to implement the latest in technology and keep Sagebrook Home a force in the home category.”
With some 10,000 SKUs in its portfolio, the facility will warehouse and ship various categories including furniture, accessories, wall décor, lighting, outdoor décor, candles and lanterns.
Just over a half hour from the port of Charleston, the facility is near Interstate 26. This also provides direct access to I-95, which runs up and down the entire eastern seaboard.
“This impressive home décor company will benefit from South Carolina Ports’ creative supply chain solutions and expansive port infrastructure,” said S.C. Ports CEO Jim Newsome. “Sagebrook’s new furniture distribution center builds on Charleston’s centrality to the furniture and home goods segment.”
“Sagebrook Home’s decision to locate a new distribution facility in Berkeley County is reason to celebrate,” added S.C. Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III. “This announcement speaks volumes to our state’s logistics advantages, infrastructure and business-friendly environment.”
The project also has benefited from a $100,000 set aside grant awarded to Berkeley County from the Coordinating Council for Economic Development. These funds assisted with the costs of site preparation and building construction.
