ONTARIO, Calif. – Casual dining specialist Chromcraft has launched a new division that will focus on modular seating, a new category for the company.
McKenzie & Co. will offer modular seating that is built off a single ottoman, featuring sofas, loveseats, chairs and sectionals.
A patented Comfort Flexx back is added to the back or sides of the ottoman with coordinating cushions and pillows added for extra support. The ottoman also offers multilayered and patented ChromSoft Seating that the company said offers “mattress-like comfort.”
The new upholstery program expands beyond the motion seating category the company launched last year with its Comfort in Motion division, which offers power and zero-gravity recliners.
Available in four styles with 14 fabrics and matching pillows, McKenzie & Co. aims to afford consumers style and flexibility, plus ease in shipping.
The Comfort Flexx back, back cushion and accent pillow are all shipped inside the bottom of the ottoman, creating a streamlined and efficient way for consumers to receive the product. Additional SKUs include a corner kit and an arm kit, which the consumer can purchase to create whatever seating footprint they want for a particular room.
Accent tables also come with the line, offering companion pieces for the living room or den that have been designed to work with each configuration.
David Urbanick, Chromcraft Corp. vice president, sales, described the pieces as being easy to assemble. This allows consumers to build, a sofa, loveseat, sectional, chaise, double chaise, corner group, double seating or an armless loveseat to name several of the many configurations. It is UPSable and can also be delivered through LTL truckloads, providing better freight rates.
As the ottoman is the core unit from which the line is built, it also can serve as an occasional furniture item, floating in front of a sofa or sectional or connecting two side chairs, for example.
Made at the company’s Sardis, Mississippi factory, the line is in production now and ships in 30 days from the time of order, Urbanick said.
“I think it is fresh and clever,” he said of the new line. “The modular seating category is hot. It provides flexible options for the consumer. Instead of just stationary sectionals or sectionals with wedges or sofas that are too big for the home, we are adding style, comfort and flexibility.”
