Ethan Allen plans to add 6 new Design Center locations

DANBURY, Conn. — In response to the success of its Design Center footprint, Ethan Allen said it plans to add at least six more of these locations between now and early next year.

The company added its newest Design Center at its Walnut Creek, California, store this past spring. This was the second it added in the U.S. in 2022, following the opening of its Design Center store in Westport, Connecticut.

It also added two locations in South Korea, officials said during an Aug. 3 conference call with financial analysts.

During the call, the company said that it has six more of these locations that will open soon.

These include a replacement Design Center in Manhattan; another in the Chicago suburb of Skokie, Illinois, one in The Villages in Northern, Florida; one in Syracuse, New York; one in San Jose, California and one in Plaistow, New Hampshire.

The Villages is a brand new location, while the others are relocations in existing markets, Matt McNulty, senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, told Home News Now. He also noted that the Syracuse location will be a grand reopening as the store was closed sometime back.

“Each of these design centers will be new to their physical building location – it is not a refresh of an existing space, but rather a brand new property,” McNulty said.

The company said that most of these are scheduled to open by the end of this calendar year with some opening in early 2023 based on availability of construction materials.

The Design Centers allow customers to work with professional interior designers at designated workstations. There, they can view before-an-after photos and 3D floor plans of individual rooms or entire homes.

Clients can view the entire Ethan Allen product line — including furniture and accents — to determine which products best complement their design project. At the Design Centers, they also can view samples of fabrics, leathers and finishes along with other custom options as part of their selection process.

“Our new Design Center projects the variety of our styles of classic design with a modern perspective and rooted in our commitment to combining personal interior design service with 3D technology,” Ethan Allen Chairman and CEO Farooq Kathwari said in a statement regarding the Design Center concept. “Our design service is complimentary, and it’s offered in the Design Center, at clients’ homes, or via virtual appointment, from planning to ordering and delivery support.”
