Oct 12-14 event includes all-day educational event at Congdon Yards that addresses topics ranging from neuroaesthetics to biophilia
HIGH POINT — As part of its efforts to show how the design of architecture, products and living spaces can impact health and well-being, Science in Design is holding its first Design, Art + Science Symposium at the October High Point Market.
The Oct. 12-14 event includes several events including a welcome mixer at the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame building downtown on Oct. 12.
On Oct. 13, there will be a symposium and educational event from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Congdon Yards. A cocktail mixer will follow from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This will be followed by a Symposium Exhibit Experience Tour at the Hall of Fame building on Oct. 14 and a pop-up event called “Neuroaesthetics/iMotions” from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. also on Oct. 14 at the Hooker Furnishings showroom on the third floor of Showplace.
Organizers said that the event will include seminars, experiential sessions, networking and a chance to meet various scholars behind the science of design. For example, the main educational event at Congdon Yards will feature seven presentations and two panel discussions that will be led by the Science in Design faculty and other medical professionals at institutions such as the University of Texas and Boston Architectural College.
Topics covered during the event include:

+ The importance of beauty and designing for the unconscious mind
+ Color, art and design fundamentals
+ Biophilia: the human need for nature
+ Visual Attention Software and iMotions technology
+ Designing for the human experience
The registration fee for the three-day event is $249, although 30 tickets are available first come, first serve between now and 11:30 a.m. July 31 at $199. The code for the early bird discount is DASS_earlybird.
