ZANESVILLE, Ohio – During the month of October, Coconis Furniture & Mattress 1st along with several community-minded businesses and healthcare organizations are partnering to offer free mammograms to those who can’t afford one due to a lack of insurance, being under-insured, or not having the ability to pay out of pocket.
In past years, the campaign has been a potential lifesaver. In one instance, a lady visited a Coconis Furniture & Mattress 1st location to thank the company for making free mammograms possible. She explained that she gave the certificate to her daughter and urged her to get a free mammogram. The daughter completed the screening and early signs of cancer were detected. Randy Coconis, President of
Coconis Furniture, stated that “if we can help save just one life with early detection, that’s priceless.”
WHIZ TV, a local NBC affiliate, will air public service announcements sponsored by Coconis Furniture promoting the free mammogram program as part of the month-long National Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. Vouchers for free mammograms are provided at all Coconis Furniture & Mattress 1st locations and the Genesis Cancer Care Center.
Last year 64 patients were able to receive free mammograms due to the community effort. The goal for 2021 is to assist 150 women in securing a mammogram. This is the fourth year Coconis Furniture & Mattress 1st and area businesses have partnered in this program.
