by HIGH POINT — During the one-hour video presentation that was IHFRA’s virtual Furniture Industry Awards Gala Thursday, Ashley Furniture’s Kerry Lebensburger says this about City Furniture President Andrew Koenig:
“When Andrew made that decision to go into the warehouse, what that tells you is he doesn’t have to have the spotlight.”
But that’s too bad. He’s getting it anyway as the recipient of the Retailer of the Year Award by the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn., recognized for distinguishing himself with leadership, business achievement and service to community. The son of Keith Koenig, CEO and co-founder of the Tamarac, Fla.-based Top 100 company, was one of seven industry leaders honored virtually by IHFRA this year in the free-for-all virtual presentation themed “Hooray for Hollywood,” The others: Shan Huei “Samuel” Kuo, co-founder and chairman of Samson Holding, Ltd., who receive the Pillar of the Industry Award; Kathy Ireland, chairman, CEO and chief designer of Kathy Ireland Worldwide, recipient of the Icon Award; Kevin O’Connor, who currently serves as a consultant to Samuel Kuo of Samson Holding, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award; former IHFRA president and longtime Ashley rep Geoff Weed, the Distinguished Service Award honoree; Marty Libowsky Legacy Rep Award recipient; and Joseph Montero, the Rising Star honoree.
