WASHINGTON — Retailer TJX has recalled about 29,000 foldable wood and rope bistro chairs because of a fall hazard that has resulted in some minor injuries to consumers.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission said that some of the chairs were sold as part of three- or five-piece sets sold under the Nautica or House & Garden brands.
According to the CPSC, the wooden frame of the chair can break or collapse when a consumer is seated. Because of this construction defect, the company has received eight reports of the frame of the chair breaking or collapsing, which has resulted in six minor injuries including bruising and an ankle strain.
Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the chairs and contact the company about how to receive a full refund and also for instructions on how to dispose of the items. They can also return the chairs to any HomeGoods, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Homesense or Sierra store for a full refund.
The recalled chairs were sold as part of the HD Furniture Group indoor-outdoor rope and Acacia Wood Bistro Table and Chairs set that included a small wooden table and four foldable chairs with wood frames and rope on the seat and back that came in gray, turquoise, brown, sand, black, aqua, pink, green, taupe or white colors. A gold bar also supported the back legs.
Some chairs were sold individually at the stores mentioned above.
Made in Vietnam, they were imported by the TJX Companies of Framingham, Massachusetts, and also were sold as sets online at Homegoods.com, TJmaxx.tjx.com, Marshalls.com and Sierra.com from March 2020 through September 2023 for between $130 and $350. The chairs sold for between $40 and $80 individually.
