HIGH POINT – Equitable Trading, a U.S. marketing agent for some of the largest and well-known factories in southern Brazil, is moving to a larger showroom here for the October Market.
The company also is adding another southern Brazil factory to its roster to broaden its mix of available product.
The company has moved to Space 131 in Centers of High Point Hamilton, which is one floor below its former location in the same building. The company also has previously shown at 220 Elm where it made its High Point debut about two years ago.
David Clark, a member of the Equitable Trading team and a partner in the business, said that the space is about one and a half times larger than the previous showroom, which will allow it to showcase more product from Brazil.
This includes a new bedroom set along with two TV stands and a wardrobe made at Politorno, its latest source plant, which specializes in KD furniture. The bedroom, which features a $299 retail bed, ships in a box, and can mix with the other product on a single container.
Two other existing source factories include Kappesberg and Rudnick.
From the Kappesberg plant, the company is showing seven bedrooms — including one set in two finishes — featuring beds that start at $399 and top out at $799. These ship along with fully assembled companion case pieces including dressers and nightstands on mixed containers.
The Kappesberg mix also includes two TV stands including one model in two finishes. Clark described these as multi-step finishes that are cured with UV light, creating a durable surface.
Product from the Rudnick plant includes three wall entertainment units made with a mix of MDF and particleboard and solid wood components. It also is showing a table and six chairs along with a buffet unit. Pieces from this factory also feature similar UV finishes.
The Rudnick product also ships on mixed containers.
Product from each factory is expected to ship within 30 days of the order, Clark noted.
“It is a quicker delivery time,” he said of lead times compared to Asia, adding that each plant also uses some of the latest technology including the production of water-based and non-toxic UV finishes.
He added that Equitable Trading also is looking to grow with its current roster of Brazilian manufacturers and others in the future.
“The difference in what we do is that we develop and design product for the retailer,” he said. “We don’t just bring out product to bring out product. Brazil is a market that a lot of retailers have not discovered yet and whoever has discovered it is benefiting from their ability to deliver quickly.”
