Units fail to meet federal flammability testing regulations, posing a fire hazard
CAMARILLO, Calif. — Bedding resource Sleep Technologies has recalled 84 of its Eco Terra hybrid latex mattresses because of a potential fire hazard.
While no injuries or incidents have been reported, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the fire hazard results from the units violating the smoldering ignition requirements of federal flammability regulations.
Despite the low number of units being recalled and a lack of incidents or injuries, the recall lets the industry know that the U.S. government continues to monitor whether companies are meeting the federal safety standards, particularly those that aim to protect consumers from fires starting in their homes.
The recall involves the Eco Terra mattress, which were made in the U.S. from Aug. 5-18, 2022 and sold online at ecoterrabeds.com in August 2022 for about $900. The mattresses are 10 inches thick and have an ivory-tone quilted top panel. The side panel has a brown-tone knitted fabric that is quilted with horizontal lines. The top and bottom tape edges are in an ivory tone material.
The manufacturer date and model name ECO TERRA are on the mattress label that is sewn into the cover.
Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using these recalled mattresses and contact Sleep Technologies for a free replacement cover. This will bring it into compliance with the federal safety standards. The company also is contacting all purchasers directly.
For additional information, consumers can contact Sleep Technologies toll-free at 888-605-0409 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, email support@ecoterrabeds.com, or online at https://ecoterrabeds.com/pages/recall or www.ecoterrabeds.com and click on “Recall” at the top of the page.
