by CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Youth bed frame resource Zipadee Kids has filed for a dissolution of its business in the state of Ohio in the midst of a recall involving two of its bed frames.
On Thursday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of 7,450 of the company’s Convertible House bed frames and Montessori floor beds because of an entrapment and strangulation hazard.
The agency noted that the spindles on the beds are spaced in a way that can cause a serious entrapment hazard. Specifically, the design of the units allows a child’s torso to slip through the openings, but not their head, which can cause entrapment and strangulation and possibly death.
The agency noted that two children have become entrapped in the bed rails, including a 21-month-old boy who received no injuries, and a 4-year-old girl who sustained minor injuries.
The recall involves the Zipadee Montessori beds sold in twin, full and queen size variations of the “Convertible House Bed Frame” and the “Montessori Floor Bed.” Intended for children 18 months and older, the units are floor beds that can be raised or converted into larger beds as the child grows and develops.
Made in the U.S. by Bell Station Interiors, dba Zipadee Kids of Circleville, Ohio, they were sold online at Zipadeekids.com and on Zipadee’s Etsy.com site from February 2018 through September 2021 for between $260 and $900.
The CPSC has advised consumers to dispose of the recalled beds and not to resell or donate them as it is a violation of federal law to sell or distribute recalled products. As the company has filed for dissolution in the state of Ohio, it has told the CPSC that it is unable to offer any further remedy to consumers.
