Article.com recalls 4,640 swivel chairs

Base of chair can break, posing a fall hazard

WASHINGTON — Online furnishings retailer Article.com has recalled 4,640 swivel chairs that pose a fall hazard.

While no injuries have been reported, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has received 190 reports of the chair base breaking. The recall aims to alert manufacturers and retailers to the types of unforeseen hazards that can result from potentially faulty construction of a key component of a chair be it the base or the legs.

The Spin swivel chair in gray fabric

The recall involves the upholstered Spin swivel chairs, which have gold-colored steel swivel legs and were sold in ivory, gray, orange and blue fabrics. They are about 32.5 inches tall, 32 inches deep and 30.5 inches wide.

About 4,500 of these were sold in the U.S. and another 140 were sold in Canada.

Made in Vietnam, they were imported by Trademango Solutions, which does business as Article of Canada. They were sold exclusively on article.com from July 2021 through June 2023 for about $700.

Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the recalled chairs and contact the company for a free replacement base and installation instructions. The CPSC said that the company also is contacting all known purchasers directly.
