Twin Star International recalls 14,670 electric fireplaces

Units can overheat, posing fire hazard

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Indoor and outdoor furniture resource Twin Star International has recalled 14,670 electric fireplace units because of a fire hazard that can occur when the units overheat.

Announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday, Nov. 9, the  recall involves the company’s Style Selections 42-inch-wide, 5,200-BTU, Black Infrared Quartz Electric Fireplaces sold at Lowe’s. Twin Star and Lowe’s have received 24 reports of the units overheating with related fire or smoke incidents and two reports of property damage. There have been no injuries reported, the CPSC said.

The units involved in the recall were made before January 2023 and include model number 42HF295FGT. They also are identified with the following date codes: 0521, 0322, 0422, 0522, 0622 and 0722, which are printed on the back panel with the serial number.

“Twin Star International Inc.” and the model number are printed on the top panel of the fireplaces.

Made in Vietnam, the units were sold at Lowe’s stores nationwide and online at Lowes.com from September 2021 through January 2023 for about $200, the CPSC said.

Consumers have been advised to stop using and unplug the recalled electric fireplace and contact Twin Star for a refund of the purchase price. Consumers also should complete the online recall registration form at www.twinstarhome.com/recall or call Twin-Star for information on how to take part in this recall.
