ANAHEIM, Calif. — Importer SourceOne Ventures has recalled more than 12,000 of its Murphy wall beds because of a tip-over and entrapment hazard.
A total of 12,275 of the company’s Windsor Queen Xtrabed Mobile Murphy beds are being recalled, including 275 in Canada.
Made in Vietnam and imported by SourceOne Ventures of Anaheim, California, they were sold online at www.wayfair.com from November 2016 through April 2023 for between $1,500 and $1,860.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recall Dec. 7, the outer case or cabinet on the front of the Xtrabed can break and fall when a user opens the bed from the front, posing an injury hazard. It also can fall if not anchored to the wall, posing a further tip-over and entrapment hazard.
The agency said that the company has received 19 reports of the bed’s outer case breaking and falling when opened from the front of the unit. This resulted in 11 injuries to consumers’ shoulders, back, legs, knees or feet. In one case, a consumer received a bruise on their arm.
Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the units and contact SourceOne Ventures subsidiary J Grubb Designs for a free home repair. Consumers who do not want the repair can instead receive a full refund. The company is also contacting all known purchasers directly.
The beds being recalled were made prior to May 2022 and were sold in white, brown and gray colors. When in the closed and stored position, they measure about 62 inches wide and 47 inches tall and have the appearance of drawers on the front of the piece. In the open position, they measure about 62 inches wide and 82 inches long.
