KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Organizers of the Malaysia International Furniture Fair said that exhibitors at this year’s show achieved record sales of $1.21 billion based on orders placed during the event.
This, officials noted, was 19% over a pre-pandemic peak of $1.01 billion in 2019.
Overall attendance was 19,275, slightly below more typical attendances levels of over 20,000 according to the show’s website.
Of the total, 30% were international buyers from more than 130 countries and regions, with the largest attendance from Asia, followed by North America and Oceania. Breaking it down even further, the largest international attendance was from China, followed by Singapore, the United States, India and Australia. Some 40% of the overall buyers were first-time visitors to the show.
According to the show, 81% of the attendees came to source new products across major categories such as dining room, bedroom, living room (occasional and upholstery), office furniture and kitchen furniture.
Held from March 1-4 at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre and the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, the show featured a record 673 exhibitors, compared to just over 600 at a more typical show.
“MIFF 2023 has exceeded expectations,” said Kelie Lim, MIFF general manager. “We’re grateful for the tremendous support of the global furniture industry, exhibitors and visitors. Industry professionals were back in full force to see their suppliers and new products. The wide range of exhibitors and products added a lot of energy and generated a positive new feel to the show. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year at our 30th anniversary, which will be stronger and better. Our focus remains on delivering good quality growth to reinforce MIFF as the best trading platform for our customers.”
