Deets Furniture transitions to 3rd-generation ownership

NORFOLK, Neb. — A third generation of family leadership is taking over ownership and management of Deets Furniture, the company announced on Wednesday.

Kyle Deets and his wife, Maegan, have purchased the business from Kyle’s parents, Ron and Sharon Deets, who have been involved with the retailer for the past 41 years.

In honor of the transition, the retailer is holding a special retirement sale with storewide discounts and giveaways throughout the summer.

The company was founded in 1961 in Madison, Wisc. by Martin and Norma Deets. The company moved to North Riverside Boulevard in Norfolk in 1987 and moved again to a 72,000-square-foot store along South Highway 81 in the same community 10 years later.

The family added a 12,000-square-foot Budget Furniture & Mattress store in 2004 and opened an Ashley HomeStore at their eight-acre site on South Highway 81 in Norfolk in 2018.

Kyle’s first job at the store was landscaping. He then began working in the warehouse and later in sales during high school and college. After nine years of working in the family business, he joined the company full-time in 2015 and has held various leadership roles since then.

The company said the transition will give Ron Deets, also known as “Double XL,” time for his passions that include BBQ, golf and family. Ron and Sharon said they are proud that the third generation is continuing with the business.

“For 62 years, Deets Furniture has served its loyal customers and has gone the extra mile to help them beautifully furnish their homes,” they said. “From its recently remodeled showrooms, Deets Furniture will continue to provide an inspirational shopping experience with a focus on fashion, service and value.”

Kyle Deets added, “We understand that creating a beautiful home can be challenging. We are here to help make this process fun and enjoyable. We will remain committed to delivering quality, service and value.”

Deets Furniture also is a long-time member of Furniture First, a national, furniture, mattress, and home decor buying group.

“We are able to leverage Furniture First’s huge national buying power which allows us to bring incredible values to our store,” Kyle said.
